I love it. Captivating from beginning to end (or maybe that's just my naivete at work... Nahhh) Unfortunately I'm not much of a critic, so the only thing that really bugged me was when you said "shrewdly cut poplar" I was thinking "crudely" would show off the haste in which the guillotine was built? Or I'm probably just hazy on shrewdly's definition. :P
