Barbarian fishing

Featured Replies

Hi

If Barbarian fishing is the best fastest xp an hour how come I do not see hardly anybody doing it, no matter what world? Just the odd person now

and then and they do not stay long.

So what is the best fishing xp, I believe it still to be trout & salmon.

Thoughts ?

This quote is taken from one of the replies on the thread.

Fly fishing in Shilo is worth about 42k exp/hr. Heavy rod fishing at barb is about 54k exp/hr. It takes about 12m experience to reach 99 fishing from level 70.

So if you go with barb, you'll need about 220 hours from 70-99. Whereas Shilo would require about 285 hours. That's an extra 65 hours! If you played 3 hours a day, that would be 11 extra days of fishing.

Okay, so barb is faster. But what about its famous drawback of not making a profit? Well, you make about 9m gp profit if you get 70-99 at shilo. That means you're using those 65 hours to make 9m gp, which is only about 140k/hr! So the extra cash of Shilo is only actually worth it if you make less than that.

But wait! We also need to count the additional experience you receive in strength, agility, and cooking. Depending on your levels, you'll end up saving as many as 15-35 hours of agility training, 12-18 hours of strength, and I don't even know how many in cooking.

Look at that. Barb's lead has just leaped to over 100 hours saved. That's more than a full month if you play 3 hours a day! You'd need to make under 100k/hr for Shilo to be better! And you can easily make more than that catching sharks or monks, since you've just gotten 99 fishing.

So as you can see, the extra speed of barbarian fishing easily trumps the small amounts of money obtained at Shilo, no matter how much poor you are. In the extra time you spend at Shilo, you could have made much more than 9m gp.

Thank you to tripsis for an awesome sig!

Question about this though...is the only close bank at Barbarian Assault? If so this changes the timeframe. Not dramatically, but it's sizeable. The bank in Shilo is one click away. The Barb Assault bank is quite a ways. Probablly still better, but the excess running time would chip away at the time savings.

Unless there's a closed bank?

thing is you dont need to bank unless you want to save the caviar

Yep, you drop the offcuts and use the caviar to keep fishing. No banking needed

You won't profit though.

This is true. However having to right click, move the mouse over "drop trout/salmon/sturgeon" then click drop 26 times takes as much time as running to the bank, depositing the fish, running back to the fishing spot, then running back to the bank again :wall:

Meh...it's actually not so bad running that far. Anyways, it's good to do both Shilo and Barbarian. Mixes things up and keeps it a little more fun than being stuck in one spot.

you bring a knife and 25 bait

you catch a load of em

you cut all of them

you receive caviar from sturgeons with fish offcuts 100% and roe from salmon 100%

drop all the fishoffcuts (it stacks)

fish with the caviar/roe

simple no banking ness

Obviously, you aren't too familiar with Barbarian Fishing. Let me tell you how it works.

You first fish a full load. From this you get fishing, agility, and strength exp. Then you use a knife on each fish, this will give you offcuts, roe or caviar, and cooking xp. The offcuts, roe, and caviar can be reused as bait, and the offcuts are stackable.

Many thanks to you both Asianboy and zaaps1 !

@ asianboy - You are right, I only started Bar fishing because it is faster. But the cutting/stacking of the roe/caviar is great.

I would prefer using feathers and selling the roe/caviar. If I have some of all three in my inventory, which would be the default bait I wonder? (checking now, I'm sure I'll find out before you reply)

Thanks for the info!!

Bait/feathers are the default.

And no, the bunyip doesn't turn barbarian fish into water runes, I've tried.

If I ever did it I'd bank the caviar.

Makes it less xp than shilo.

Dang?

I dont need a siggy no moar.
