My bios is currently freezing on the startup. It gets to the part where it gives information on my CPU and then just stops. I can't access the setup screen or anything.

 

 

 

 

 

I'm running a Nvidia 650i Ultra motherboard. The only thing that could have happened is that I recently had my PC in a suitcase with me (bubblewrapped and in a hard shell suitcase) on an airplane, but when I got the case home (and a day late because of the [bleep]ing airport) the CPU heatsink had it's fan broken and was lying in the case. So I don't know if something could have broken.

 

 

 

 

 

I believe I've already tried reseting the CMOS (unplugging the PSU and then removing the little blue jumper thing and putting it back on after 20 seconds or so) but I'm not positive.

 

 

 

So any idea on what could be the problem? It's really a pain in the [wagon].

Disconnect all media (ex: external hard drive). Remove everything but your mouse and keyboard and if it still doesn't go try removing mouse and keyboard too.

Had a problem like this fixing a friends computer before, check all the HDD cables are securely attached and if the HSF is fully functional. Try re-installing the HSF as it might be a heat issue and the grinding movement of the HSF may have broken the layer of thermal paste.

Did this too. I had to install a new heatsink because the old one is busted, and I took out all the SATA cables and it still froze at the same spot.

Mother Board beeping? Also i am sure you have checked but is everything tight on the Mother Board?

Not getting any beeps or sounds at all (except for the fans running).

 

 

 

I'll try and double check to make sure everything is hooked in on the mobo fine.

You sure you reset the cmos correctly? Usually they're 3 pins with the jumper on two and you need to move the jumper to the other side for 20secs (with the psu unplugged of course). Or just have the computer unplugged and remove the battery for a few minutes.

 

 

 

You said the heatsink broke off while it was being moved, it could have bent some pins on the board when it broke off. Remove the processor and check for any bent, missing, or damaged pins. What heatsink did you have installed? Just a tip for next time, if your not running the stock heatsink, then always remove it before shipping the computer long distances.

That's good that you figured it out. I would run memtest on the rest just to make sure there aren't any further problems.

I think I may try and get myself a new processor, like an E8400 or something like that. My old E4300 is just not cutting it.
