January 3, 200917 yr [hide=V1][/hide] [hide=V2][/hide] Well this is my first digipainting that I've actually managed to get beyond five minutes then getting bored. Used this picture as a more or less rough reference: [hide=][/hide] Took roughly 4 hours between 4-8am. Made with Photoshop CS2 and my Wacom tablet. Got sort of stuck with a background, couldn't really decide something that looked good. Thoughts?
January 3, 200917 yr It looks great for a first. The nose could probably use a bit more contrast or something to show depth though, it looks flat. GJ.
January 3, 200917 yr Author Yeah, I see what you mean. I think it could probably benefit from some more contrast, the urge to use a levels adjustment layer or burn/dodge was very great. I stayed away though, I think it's better practise to use just the brush, no filters.
January 3, 200917 yr It looks great!! :D In addition to what Nadril mentioned, I also feel like the horns could use a little work. Right now they seem very flat. - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
January 3, 200917 yr Yeah I wouldn't be afraid to use contrast if I were you, I think it would help a ton.
January 3, 200917 yr The skull looks pretty good, more contrast would be good, maybe also working on the top part of the right (stage left) horn as it looks a bit too simple at the moment. As for a background, it depends what you're going for. If you're looking to make a few bucks you could sell it to some metal band or something on myspace, they're fairly gullible :P I'd go for a simple background, maybe a lightly textured beige or something.
January 3, 200917 yr Looks great, the points I was going to bring up have been brought up already. 2257AD.TUMBLR.COM
January 4, 200917 yr Author Thanks for everyone's advice, V2 is now up. :) Redid the texture on the left horn, added more shadows around the jaw and contrast in the mouth area.
January 4, 200917 yr Awesome first. I'd say: - Increase contrast with more highlights and shadows - Use bigger brushes when smoothing (flatten and simplify) - Spice up the lighting with 'radiosity' and light bounces from the environment[1] - Don't forget to clean your edges and such (even if it's just a quick cleanup)

Was a really great read, and I don't even paint. :P
