Searching for 'notes' in the bestiary...

Recommended Posts

I noticed something while searching for monsters that drop Scabarite notes for the DwS quest and side-quest. There are seven monsters listed when searching the Bestiary under "notes" and only seven (thankfully). First, there are more (since each monster is considered different if it has different levels) than seven. Second, not all of the monsters listed drop those notes, or actually, quest related notes of any kind. In looking at three of the monsters, I see a couple of minor changes could be made to "correct" or clear up confusion about searching for "notes".

1) http://tip.it/runescape/index.php?rs2monster_id=649

"He looks really hungry!"

While technically one can't kill these monsters, by using the Rod of Ivandis on a vampyre under half health and then using a dose of Guthix Balance Potion on the vampyre, it will return to human form and give any of these items as notes (if possible).

Instead, the last line could read (from 'give'): "give any of these items in noted form (if possible)."

2) http://tip.it/runescape/index.php?rs2monster_id=26

Notes, you cannot kill him with a typical weapon. You have to deal the finishing blow with a stake. Make sure you have a hammer in your inventory.

Garlic weakens him a whole lot!

He gives much reduced XP for killing him.

Instead, the words 'Notes,' as it appears can be deleted since it is in the 'Notes:' section. I might clear up the whole thing (and I don't understand the part about the XP reduced) and write it this way: "You cannot kill him with a typical weapon alone. You must deal the finishing blow with a stake by using it on him with a hammer in your inventory. Garlic helps weaken him if used on him during the fight."

3) http://tip.it/runescape/index.php?rs2monster_id=554

Misc: Fishing explosive (3-5), Raw sardine, Raw herring, Raw pike, Raw salmon, Raw bass, Raw tuna, Raw swordfish (1, 2 noted), Raw shark, Fishing bait(5,15), Oyster, Seaweed, Fishbowl, Long bone, Curved bone, Crunchy Claw Token (see notes)

Instead of '(see notes)' it could read: "(see below)"

Even better, the link to the Crunchy Claw Token in the notes section could just be hyperlinked there instead and/or the bit about the Summoning guide could be added to the item page for the actual item, here: http://tip.it/runescape/index.php?rs2item_id=7248

As I mentioned, it's well-documented that a number of other levels (not necessarily types) of monsters drop the scabarite notes, and I'd be willing to take down those monster names, levels, examines...anything that would help. Just let me know.

Funny...as I just noticed, even in one of the monsters that DO have the correct drop, it's listed as 'Scarabite notes' (here: http://tip.it/runescape/index.php?rs2monster_id=1097)

while looking at the examined items in the inventory on the following page shows it should be 'Scabarite notes' instead: http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?f=228&t=766666

It's listed correctly in the other three instances:

moving from Items subforum to Bestiary

it's a lot easier to get over yourself when you look at intelligence the same way you look at beauty, or height, or eye color: being smart is easy, but being good is hard ... being smart is handed to you, being good is handed to *nobody*.
