rangeor
Which is better? I'm leaning towards the first one myself. And I can't think of anything to add to either :x
Ouchy
The title ade me Lol  The guitar needs to stand out more. I like how you have made an effort to blend it in unlike mose of the new comers here, but it is bleneding in too much. And the filter that is used on it should be turned down a little too if possible. The background, good flow, but distracting I must say. Text, change it or remove it. Text is probably the hardest part in some cases. My relaxation method involves a bottle of lotion, beautiful women, and partial nudity. Yes I get massages. Nadril
It's not even a drawing, just a filter pile. Please revisit the basics. You now know how to use filters, that's great. Stop using them now. Learn the basics of design and what looks good because right now yours doesn't. http://www.johnlovett.com/test.htm http://www.colormatters.com/colortheory.html Look up better GIMP tutorials. There are a lot of links around the forum. Or, alternatively, ask some of the more experienced GIMP users for help.

rangeor
Hey guys, I have a question. What would be the best way to turn this picture: Into a render? With the other pictures I just erased the white parts but that isn't working very well with this one :?
Pat_61
*Smacks with News Paper* Don't Erase or MW(Magic Wand) You use the path tool around the edges. rangeor
Found out that I could get rid of the white part by changing the layer mode to multiply, and if I changed it to divide it would turn yellow. So I used that to make a pretty cool shadow effect :P so here it is: C/C?
Pat_61
No, the shadow is horrible, IMO. You should have cut it out instead of taking a short cut. It might not work next time. pryomancer
Using the blend modes or whatever GIMP calls them (blend modes on Photoshop) is fine if it gets the desired effect. Making an image is all about making your life easier, in a word, being non-destructive. If you are a graphic designer and you show your client their finished item, and they want, for example, the person on the right to be smaller and have more of their body shown. If you've deleted everything that isn't showing, you've got to cut out that whole stock again, it was a better idea to keep the whole render and use a layer mask to hide stuff, rather than using the eraser tool. This is non-destructive editing, as it keeps the original image intact for easy editing later should it be required. Destructive editing is stuff like adding filters, blurring and erasing bits. These things are very difficult to correct once they've been done and you've lost the history state. Personally, whenever I'm editing an image or section of an image, I always make a duplicate of the layer, so if I screw up I've still got the original to go back to with just one click. Also, I see you inverted the guitar, you should never do that. Inverting is very rarely a good idea.
