Hammertime
In runescape classic, the combat system locked you in combat until each player (or monster) has had 3 hits. 3 hitting is simply the term that came about to describe killing someone before they had a chance to escape combat with you. As for catching, it was a very handy technique to master. As there was no run/walk in classic, everyone moved at the same speed. This means that if someone got enough of a head start on you, they could get away easily. Catching is anticipating where your opponent will run when they leave the fight and moving your character strategically (cover the same ammount of ground space, while moving through fewer 'squares' on the map)this would allow you to close the gap between you and your opponent. If you were a good catcher, you would get more kills and therefore, more profit. The only reason the max on classic is 123, as opposed to 126 in rs2 is because jagex revamped the way the game calculates combat levels (combat formulas). basically they changed how prayer and magic affected your combat. Hope that helps

Trip
it was quite simple, to eat/pot you had to run. rsc's pking system worked incredibly well, especially in comparison to the joke that rs2 pking is. http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=Oe_t-ThcX70 this might help you to understand

Eating and potting and anything else oculdnt be done in combat
Bardock69
you serious that is so gay how did people fight? so it used to be like a duel with no food no forfeit The player kill system was imperial. The first 3 rounds were absolutely critical, and that's what made the system so glorious. dragon312
ooh i think i understand now you get 3 chances at hitting then you run eat fight again, so there was little to no pjing l ike ther eis today in the sense you wont get hit half way through a fight Pjing was even worse, after a fight you could be attacked immediately and had to fight another 3 rounds, which was kind of lethal for pures (even for most high levels if you had a good mager against you with a bit of hitting luck).
