well, i'm still trying digital painting, but I'm not going to get good in a day, so i'm not posting stuff like that untill I actualy like it ><

however, I still like terragen. I know there are more powerful programs out there, all that good stuff, but I like terragen the best. Anyways, I'm still trying to get better in it.

here's a new surface map and atmo (somewhat basic but gets the point across) for a new piece of mine. on second look of this, i'm probaly going to give the grass less dark shades, seeing as it's realy over-empowering the other stuff right now. This is one of the first i've done in a while with a snow layer too, nicly stuck ontop of the mountains.

the terrain is a mixture of a .DEM of a mountain and my good 'ole terraceworld piece. I think they merged nicely together.

I named the piece this, because it reminds me of a morning after a realy stormy night. its as clear as can be, and you can still almost feel the humidity (the fog)

anyways, hope you guys like.

I mean it looks good, but the grass really bothers me. In temperatures where there can be that much snow and ice, can grass survive? Sorry if there are certain types that can, it just seems that grass always dies in that kind of temperature. Maybe try something different instead of the grass? Like some dirt or dead grass atleast.

The atmo is really nice though :).

hmm... you have a point there. at first when i did it i had the grass just in the low alittudes, as you got higher it was all snowy and stuff...

and yeah, your right. i'll probaly replace it with snow/rock :P and perhaps some dead grass :) thanks.

when I saw it I thought of the Andes (it's called that, right, the mountains in South-America?), so I looked up some images on google to check if my feelings were justified:

dunno what you think, but it might be showing a possibility for grass so close to snow anyway.

How about icy grass?

Also can you make gerbils with that program?

[sig inserted here....in few days]

  • Author

If you look hard enough you could probaly find tiny pieces of gerbals, but probaly not a whole one :P

thanks korla. i'll try and match my surface to those :)

the last one is what i want to get the grass like... seems like i gotta use a lot more light greens and almost browns for it:)

yea grass can live with snow

Thanks for the highly informative response...care to explain how grass is always dead during the winter time then?

grass on its own can't live with snow. if it snows, the grass will probaly die.

however, on the mountains, as you get higher up it gets colder. so for example... (made up btw) heres what it'd be like

(top)

- 35 degrees

- 40 degrees

as you would scale a mountain, it would get colder and colder. near the top of the mountain snow could start to form. so you will almost always (depending on the mountain and its location) see a lot of snow on the tip of it, and then as the altitude decreses you will see less snow + more grass. kind of like what you see in the pictures korla posted.

so technicly sam, you were wrong, although not sure what you were trying to get at.

lol not bad it looks pretty reallystic.
