Basically I reformat my harddrive and reinstall my OS quite often, and I hate having to reinstall my programs, wait for them to patch etc. I heard that most games save registry files as well making it impossible to just copy the folder and get it working later.

Is there any way to do this?

I'm with Nadril on this one, Why re-install the OS so often?

Anyway the only games which are folder copy and paste-able are Steam games (I've done this before, but I wouldn't really recommend it) and games which are designed to run from external devices (flash-drives etc.).

it is possible to backup any game that uses the registry, you just have to make a .reg file containing ALL the netrys the game uses, and then run it once you have reinstalled to replace them.

the thing is, games often use many registry values right across the registry, and locating them would take ages.

the solution is dont waste your time reinstalling your os so often. it has NO to EXTREMELY LITTLE benefit at all.

make sure you have a good AV (Avira free, Nod32 pay) and ad ware programs (spybot S&D with Adaware) and defrag your hard drive often
