One day I was using my iphone just as I would any other day. After school, about 6 hours later, I was using my iphone and i tried to open an app but it wouldn't respond. I wanted to see if it was just the app or what the problem is. When i tried another app it worked. As it turns out, no matter what I am running, the right side of the touch screen is unresponsive. I would like to know if anyone else had this problem and knows how to fix it. Thank you.

If half the touch screen is unresponsive, then you almost certainly have a hardware defect. Just to make sure, restore your Iphone and if that does not work call Apple and send it in - they are quite good about issuing replacements.

++. Like any touch screen hand held if you sit on the phone in your pocket that will cause this. I am not saying you did i am just saying it isa possible cause i have seen this a lot.

Actually it isn't half the screen it's just like the right quarter of the screen. Also I don't think it is a hardware defect because I have had it for over a month and it just now happened.

Do a hard reset by holding the home and sleep button. If that doesn't work, open iTunes and restore your iPhone as a new phone. If this doesn't work then it can't be a software defect (at least, one that you can fix). At this point you can call Apple or take it to an Apple store and they'd be happy to give you a new phone.

Laura's got it right; I think going into an Apple store would be your best option, if there's one near you.

Even if he doesn't, you can contact Apple. In my previous experiences (iPod), they just sent me a box with prepaid shipping and I sent it to them. Five days later, it showed up at my door again, free of charge.

The hard reboot seems to fix 99% of the issues I have with my iPhone, but I've never had it where half the screen becomes unresponsive.
