You just need to do defender of varrock.

 

But i recommend to do haunted mine then charge salve in tarn's lair to get salve(e).

You only need to start it up to the point where you enter the base of the person you're tracking at the time ;) You don't actually have to complete it if you're a quest-o-phobe like many people I know.
