Easiest/Cheapest way to get smithing up

Well making bolts/arrowheads seem to be a relatively cheap method, but there may be a better option so stay tuned for more advice. I'd just like to say two things:

Typically the cheapest method is also the slowest, just so you are prepared. Getting 75 or 80 won't happen overnight if you want to preserve as much of your gp as possible. And secondly, I would recommend playing the Stealing Creation mini game. If you are unfamiliar with the game, you can read the Tip.it guide here: Stealing Creation. One of the rewards is a Sacred Clay Hammer, which will double all of your smithing experience. It only lasts for 64k doubled experience though so you will have to play several Stealing Creation games.

Smithing you can actually make a profit by buying the ores and smelting the bars  but its a very slow rate of exp. Another way would either be making gol bars with gauntlets or by smith iron/steel platebodies, but both of these methods will prove costly in the long run.

Hope that helps ::'

well if you mine the coal yourself(or half the coal) and alch the steel plates you could probably come out even or a bit ahead

While he could probably make a profit doing that, it would take even longer. So it really depends on how much time he wants to devote to this skill.

Are cannonballs still good to make? I remember that months and months ago they were slow, but profitable.

Cannonballs are still an option. As you stated they're kind of slow experience but you will make a profit. Preferably you should buy coal and iron ores instead of steel bars since this will generate more profit money-wise and experience-wise (I think, not sure though ::' ).

thanks for all your help guys, ive decided to buy coal and iron, smelt it into bars, then smelt into cannonballs and with all the profit i make im going to buy bars and smith them for more exp :)

depending on your time/money

cannonballs are extremely slow 10k exp an hr..

as tripsis says stealing creation for hammers but dont use the hammers until 68

iron with ring of forging is better profit and more exp than cannonballs

If you are going to do cannonballs, I'd recommend just buying the steel bars. Less profit potential, but at ~3 minutes per load, you can cruise your way up while AFK.

Once you get enough money and smothing levels, you may want to try smelting and smithing Mithril at the Blast Furnace at...world 58? I haven't done it yet, but it looks good on paper (buying the coal/mithril ore, noting, and smithing arrowtips/bolts will result in a net profit).

I did blast furance from 64 - 68, and i plan to get 69 there for Rocking out. Its not that much effort, and with only using half the coal, you can even make a profit!

I used SC hammers, it really sped it up.

Just get 53 smithing to make mith bolts (unf), they stack in your inventory so you can stay at the furnace for as long as you want, at 53 smithing you could expect at least a level per hour / hour and a half at the very least.

Use SC hammers from level 60 or so in my opinion.

To get 53 smithing? Cannonballs all the way.

Slow exp, but good money, allowing you to pay for the mith ores and coal for the blast furnace ::'
