Construction (POH portals)

I was wondering exactly how portals work. If I "enchant" or "focus" a portal, do I have to leave that portal there or can I upgrade it to better materials? What about the focuses themselves? Do they get upgraded or do I have to rip out the old stuff to put in new ones which would mean wasting runes (especially wasting the laws).

I just don't want to find out later that I'm stuck with Teak portals and a limestone focus.

If you focus a portal and later choose to upgrade it, you will not have to refocus the portal. When you build the new one, it will still have the same teleport tied to it.

I was afraid of the same thing, but I tried it myself and it worked fine :)

So, once I focus the portals, I don't ever have to do it again? What would be the case that I do have to re-do the focusing? Or if I wanted to...

And what order are they? They are numbered 1 to 3, right? So is 1 the one to the right of the door if I'm looking into the room or to the left?

That is correct - once you focus them, you won't have to do it again. If you want to refocus them, I believe you just follow the same steps you went through to focus them in the first place. I've never actually refocused a portal personally though so I could be mistaken.

And sorry, but I'm unsure about the order :ohnoes: I've only ever done it once and it was well over a year ago. Hopefully someone else will know the answer though :)

Ah...well, the numbers are there when you examine the focus...each number corresponds to a portal. I have no idea if they are still there once the portal is focused.

Is anyone near their POH with portals focused? Can you look at the focus and see which numbers have which portals focused to them and then see how they are oriented to the door opening? I'm pretty sure the back wall would be the second one!

I'm pretty sure when you're focussing a portal it has the name and where the portal currently teleports you, so you wont be accidentally replacing the wrong portal.

This is correct.

By the way, Marble Portals don't seem to have any more features than the lower versions.

They cost 3 x Marble Block which is then 975k per so 2925k per chamber that is basically a complete waste...

I wasn't as concerned with replacing the wrong one as trying to set it up so I could remember where the easiest to reach portals would be and make it quicker to access when making runs for stuff and using house teles...

There is a list:

1. Nowhere

2. Nowhere

3. Nowhere

...and I'm guessing 2 is located across from the entrance to the portal room.

____________

.........2........

?.......O.......?

___..........___

...something like that (without the '.' as placeholders). I'm trying to figure out which goes where.

What are you asking again?

[hide=]Sorry im burnt out[/hide]

I'm asking what order in the room the portals appear when you choose to focus them. If I do Varrock in the first one, Kharyll in the second, and Camelot in the third, how will they be oriented if I'm looking through the opening of the portal room (the door spot)? Which will be to my left and which will be to my right?

I just checked my house. When standing in the doorway, looking into the room, 1 is to my left, 2 straight ahead, and 3 to my right. Hope that helps.

That's perfect. That's what I was looking for. Extrememly useful.
