February 25, 200917 yr So, recently my dad upgraded my computer to Vista, which is nice, but it made my computer lag a lot more when playing RS. I disabled Aero which helped a lot, but it still freezes up for ~5 seconds every minute when I play, which is annoying because it messes up my ability to pk and solo sara, ect. basically, wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to get rid of this lag that doesn't involve downgrading, which I'm sure some will suggest. I have 1022MB RAM, because I know that's one of the first things people will ask about. Not sure what else you guys will need to know though, so just ask. Thanks! February 25, 200917 yr Upgrading the RAM is already a very good idea, since with Vista, 1GB Like you have is the minimum, meaning that your computer will work, but will be very slow. Get another GB and you should be good. It would also be good to know the other specs, as processor, etc.
February 25, 200917 yr Using Wireless I take it? Vista has a automatic program that searches for new networks every minute which will be the cause of the lag [bleep]es. Unfortunately I get the same problem and I've tried 2 programs that are supposed to stop the problem one is called vista anti lag and the other is WLAN Optimizer you can try both but no promises they'll work  The only way I can see of stopping it is to go back to XP where you can just turn the option off in services and use the wireless utility that came with your wireless card.
February 26, 200917 yr Author Yeah, i don't really want to have to buy more RAM but I might end up doing that. And yeah, I am one wireless, so I'll check that out. Here's some more specs btw. February 26, 200917 yr I'd highly recommend getting more RAM. I upgraded my XP machine from 1GB to 3GB last summer, and the performance is noticeably better :). You'll need to find out what type of RAM your computer takes before you upgrade though. It'll probably be DDR2, in which case upgrading it won't cost much at all (For example my upgrade was only £27, about $45 at the time I think). The easiest way is to go to crucial.com and run their on site scanner, it'll tell you what type of RAM you have and what your motherboard will support. "In the beginning, the universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."
February 27, 200917 yr That computer wasn't really built to have Vista. Increasing the RAM will give you an enormous benefit though.
