CoRnMaN
a bitmap graphic tells the computer to draw a certain amount of pixels. a vector graphic tells the computer to create a shape but dont put together the pixels. i just wanted to know if i can find this in any other program besides flash, becuase it is a VERY nice feature. venomai
Well, any vector-based program (as opposed to raster-based) will do the trick. Illustrator is especially well known for vectors, and so is Freehand. Flash is probably one of the worst programs for creating vectors. But keep in mind, Illustrator/Freehand/etc. aren't for flash animations, or any animations for that matter. It can create the vector out of vertices and lines, but the result will almost always be a still image. And it is a nice feature, but unfortunately, vector pieces result in a completely different result than any raster pieces. and personally, i prefer the smooth airbrushed (or even pixel art) styles to the cel shaded vector styles. tttia
Corel Draw is another there is a free vector package from Serif as well. You can also sort of make them in ps with the pen tool. A program called satori photoxl has an odd blend of a raster/vector format.
SubDivi
I like Illustrator due to mesh gradient, even though im not particularly good at using it. I've always liked the idea of vector for creating a painting base. You can size it up infinitly, if you wished, without losing anything.
tttia
Oh man I wish I could afford illustrator. The mesh tool in my old version of corel is lame. I agree though, for painting base layers even corel is awesome. You can get just the right shapes.

Mercifull
http://www.snapfiles.com/freeware/gmm/f ... cedit.html Found that list of free Graphic and Photo design programs. Some of them do vector work too. Mercifull <3 Suzi "We don't want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape. If we let players start doing this, it devalues RuneScape for others. entangle
Flash isnt "one of the worst" at all. You'd be suprised how many people in the profession feel more comfortable using Flash rather than Illustrator. I also feel more comfortable using Flash over Illustrator. It doesnt have the fancy gradient tools, but it's very good for creating solid colour vectors.
