Don't know how common knowledge this is, but you can steal from stalls and get the goods even if you get caught by a guard.

 

If you click on the stall a second time before the guard reaches you (after yelling at you to stop), you have just enough time to snag some booty. This even works if they're right next to you as there's a second or two lag between their dialogue and their first strike. Works on Knights, too.

 

Dunno if it works outside of Ardougne (though I don't see why it wouldn't) as I'm currently thieving on the fur stall there, but it should speed up training time for thieves when using stalls to train.
