mr_dude160
After recently getting around to doing Defender of Varrock, I've been itching to write a Runescape related story. Here it is ^^ Chapter 1 Warning Lily, a fair, blond woman walked briskly down the main street of Varrock, enjoying the light click of her boots on the rough, gray bricks. After a week of pouring rain, the sun was finally out, brightening the dampened spirits of Varrock's citizens. As she walked by the general store, a man ran out in front of her, waving merrily. "Lily! I finally found you!" he shouted, after a quick embrace, "I have some great news, you need to follow me!" "Gregg, I can't," said Lily as Greg grabbed her arm, "I have to go see Nana, she's only getting worse." To Lily's relief, Gregg stopped his pulling. Nana had been getting sicker and sicker as the days went by, and she wanted to be there in case anything happened. A well known doctor was on her way from Ardougne, and was expected in a few days. Three days if the weather stayed as nice. Lily walked in silence to the nicer district of Varrock, where Nana lived. "Oh for the love of Guthix," growled Lily, spotting Nana's house, a thick black smoke pouring from the chimney, "She's at it again." Nana was a witch. She had lived in splendor all her life, as Lily's family had since the very beginnings of the city itself. And sick though she was, Lily knew that she couldn't be pulled away from her charms and spells. And to Lily's dismay, there were no spells that could cure her. Lily marched up the marble steps to a well furnished porch that wrapped around the outside of the house, and pulled open the thick oak door. She was greeted by a butler that bowed deeply as she passed, rushing up another flight of stairs. She walked angrily to Nana's closed door, and attempted to open it in vain. "Nana! Unlock the door!" shouted Lily angrily, pounding on the door. The door began to rattle violently, as if threatening to break. There was a light click, and the door opened. Nana, small and frail, stood smiling at Lily, her eyes full of laughter. "You naughty thing you," she said chuckling, "No need to be breakin' down my door, child. Give this old lady time." Nana stepped aside, letting Lily into her large, fragrant bedroom. Nana kept incense burning at all times, and tucked away into a far corner was a statue of the god Zaros surrounded by a multitude of glowing candles. Lily bowed her head in respect, and turned to Nana. "You're practicing Voodoo?" she exclaimed, "That's outlawed! They'll have your head for that!" "It's not whatcha think, child," said Nana defensively, "This work is commissioned by the king 'imself! We are all in great danger!" "What danger?" asked Lily warily, "And how bad is it?" "The gods will tell, child," whispered Nana, coughing, "All in good time. But I've been looking to the future, and I want you to get out. Run from the city. They are coming." Lily's stomach churned. She understood Nana's statements. The prophecies of her family were to be fulfilled. signature
mr_dude160
Chapter 2 An Unwelcome Visitor Lily woke up screaming, her pillow damp with sweat. It had been a week since her visit with Nana, and her dreams became dark and foreboding. Thick gray clouds had returned once more to the city, adding to her fears. She began to doze, only to be jerked awake by the urgent tolling of a bell. A few moments later, a maid walked in carrying a white robe, and began to dress Lily. "Miss, urgent town meeting," she said as she pulled the kebbit-fur robe over Lily's arms, "The guards spotted something most disturbing outside the city gates." "Oh? And what is that?" asked Lily, feigning calm, "I really hope it's worth getting me out of bed." "Werewolf," whispered the maid, escorting Lily down the stairs, "A female." Lily gasped, as she was led out of the house and down the street. The street was crowded with Varrock's nobility, all being escorted in a fashion similar to hers. "I say, they really should have waited until morning," grumbled a passing man to his butler, yawning, "It's terribly rude of them to wake us up so late." Lily and the maid strolled casually down the wide streets of Varrock, towards the city square. "Wow Miss, something must be askew," said the maid quietly, clutching Lily's arm. "What do you mean?" "A Werewolf, in Misthalin! It can't be a good sign, Miss." As they drew nearer to the square, Lily heard a distinct, bone chilling howl. Going around a corner, a large cage came into view, containing a werewolf with thick, matted hair. The beast was vicious, with bright red eyes, and sharp, yellow fangs. Saliva dripped from her open mouth, and she threw herself at the bars, trying to break free. "My God!" exclaimed Lily, clutching her chest, "It's absolutely disgusting!" Captain Rovin was standing fearlessly at a podium a few feet from the cage, trying to settle the crowd. After a few minutes the crowd was quiet. Only the crying of children and the snarls of the wolf perforated the silence. "Citizens of Varrock! Tonight, we found this beast outside our city walls! This beast, who comes from the foul land of Morytania, was sent as a scout to our lands. We are all in imminent danger!" At this the crowd erupted, men and women shouting angrily for something to be done, to save their children. "Please, settle down!" shouted Captain Rovin, raising his firm hands, "In light of the dire situation, we have put into an effect a mandatory evacuation of all women and children! Men, the time is now to take up your swords against the vile creatures of the swamps. His Majesty King Roald has issued a draft for all able bodied men in the kingdom. We have an established alliance with the kingdom of Asgarnia, and they have opened their borders to our refugees. So please, women, pack your things and leave immediately. There is no time for delay." The crowd stood in a stunned silence, as a thick black cloud blocked out the light of the moon. As people began to talk amongst themselves, Lily looked up to the darkened sky, praying for Nana to be wrong. What she saw terrified her. Standing on the walls of the distant castle was a large, winged creature, barely visible again'st the dark clouds. She let out a terrified shriek, pointing at the figure. "It's a dragonkin!" shouted a woman near her, "Look at the wings!" "Don't be daft, woman, those don't exist" laughed a man nearby, "And if they do, they wouldn't be bothering us here! This is a matter of werewolves." "Then what is it?" asked the woman defiantly, "I tell you, look at the wings!" "Vyrewatch," whispered Lily, covering her mouth. "What's that miss?" asked her maid, leaning in closer. "Vyrewatch!" The bickering man and woman stopped arguing, and looked at Lily incredulously, as if her realization were completely impossible. The news began to spread throughout the crowd, and people began to run. The figure Jumped from the tower, taking flight. It's powerful wings moved it effortlessly over the square, and it landed gracefully on the cage of the werewolf. "Vyrewatch," whispered Lily once more, completely horrified. The prophecy had come true. signature
