What about some kind of tint on whichever menu you're on? Just so you know where you are.

I like the idea of a text drop-down. I can see it being really dramatic with an eased tween. To make the JavaScript easier, I'd suggest using something like mootools.

I'll look into that. Next tuesday I'm going to start coding everything.

It's probably just me, but I find lightbox really annoying to use. I would use a dropdown or even a mouse-over.
