Kinda.

Google Trends will give you a graph of the "search index" of a term: the amount that that term has been searched compared to average. Depending on how often the term has been searched, it will go down to specific towns. If you type in a site, it will give you a graph of the daily visitors. However, it doesn't always go to specific towns, it's usually states or countries.

You can combine to two if you like to get an idea of the number of people visiting a site from a specific town.

Sorry if this post was confusing, but I hope it helps a little.

Edit: I was messing with it, and noticed that RHQ is coming down a lot closer to our level :P

Thanks to Uno for the awsome sig <3

Try Google Analytics. It tracks all sorts of stats, including the visits to a site by country, state, and city.

Totally forgot about that...

That's good as long as you're the owner of the website. Bad form otherwise.

Heres why I was asking, my (stupid) advisory teacher is making us do projects to help out a charity or similar organization. So I tried to think of the easiest way to do this. I came up with the idea to tell people about freerice.com and hoongle. But hes like "BLAH BLAH BLAH NO WAY TO TRACK PEOPLE FROM YAKIMA GOING THERE BLAH BLAH BLAH" :wall:

So I couldnt track the number of hits from my town those websites got?

How big is your town? Sometimes the towns are subsidies on other ISP grids. IE, suburbs being provided for by the nearest town. It traces it to the ISP, and then gets the town from there.

I think the only way you would be able to do that is if you actually owned the website and put on one of those maps that show where 'visitors' are from. Even then it wouldn't be accurate.

So in short,

No. (I doubt it)

-.O Or you could read the previous posts which I didn't do.

The only way to track it in that way is to have a deep packet sniffer that is set to intercept any packets that come from a certain area to this particular site. Let me warn you though, doing this will get you cut off from your internet connection real quick without prior notice to the isp service provider, it will also attract alot of unwanted attention that is not the isp service as well.

Just knowing the unique visitor count is not enough information to tell if the site improved. You would need engagement metrics to understand how much time people spend on a site and how many pages they look at on average during each visit to more fully understand the site's popularity.

It might just work then. Could you get the site's owner to add a bit of HTML for you?
