They do NOT use their range attack if you are right beside them. They only use melee, dragon fire and magic. 3. If you don't know this how do you know 1. -_- Mithrils melees/ranges about 50% of the time, and mages/dragon fires 25% each. I was asking because I had tried a trip at melee range as opposed to distanced to avoid running up when I swapped to excalibur while still having auto retaliate on, and I noticed that i was taking a lot more damage. I'll just count that as bad luck then, I suppose.
