Themonkey78
I got a security warning (McAfee) saying that some kind of Adware was trying to run or something, and it asked me if I should let it or delete it, so I deleted it and did a scan right after. A few hours later I got ANOTHER warning that a different named adware was trying to install, even tho nothing was found the 1st scan. Can someone help me? (Btw what exactly is adware? my mom wants to know the exact def)
Mercifull
There is no exact defenition unfortunatly. there is a fine line between legit monitoring, and illegal unauthorised access to your computer Answers.com says that, (ADvertisementWARE) Software that periodically pops up ads in a user's computer. Adware is considered "spyware" and is installed without the user's knowledge. It typically displays targeted ads based on words searched for on the Web or derived from the user's surfing habits that have been periodically sent in the background to a spyware's Web server. See popup ad and spyware. But there really id a multitude of different defenitions for different kinds of adware. Mcaffee is primarily an anti virus program not anti-spyware perhaps scan with Ad-aware and Spybot S&D and then post a HijackThis log for us to check through. Chris
What's funny about it is, if he goes into Add/Remove programs... I bet he'll find something to do with Ad/Spy/Malware. Adware nowadays very rarely just installs. If people read the Terms & Conditions when installing software they'd see that they're not only accepting not to steal/reverse engineer the software they're installing but agreeing to install a third party advertisement program aswell. Messenger Plus 3 is a great example because they make it obvious by asking if you want to install the third party advertisement program. Most people just don't read it and click next, before they know it they have an extra toolbar that seems to be slowing their computer down. :? Add/Remove -> Adaware -> Spybot -> HiJackThis -> Full Anti-Virus Scan That's the best way of removing Adware that I know of, and I do it a lot. Notoriously Trollish.
