Yes I believe it is a reward from the 'Horror From The Deep' quest. You are given a choice to which damaged prayer book you would like first. I'm sure the first damaged book you get from completing the quest is free of charge but after you have completed that prayer book you have the choice to choose another one which would cost you 5K for the damaged prayer book. After completing this prayer book you may wish to go back and buy the last damaged prayer book for 5K.

I'm only posting here because I have something to add, not to steal any of your credit.

 

 

 

I noticed that the item entry (for at least the Unholy book) didn't contain enough information about "operating" the book. I think some people might like to know about the things you can do with it, like the Wedding ceremony ("Two great warriors..."), Last Rites ("The weak deserve to die..."), Blessing ("May your bloodthirst never be sated..."), and Preach ("Strike fast, strike hard...").

 

 

 

Perhaps writing out all the different things isn't necessary, but I think it would be a neat addition to it, because the first time I got a completed book, I played around with it.

 

 

 

Also, maybe the entries could have something about the exact energy used when doing those prayer things and prayer points used when blessing unholy symbols and stuff.

I believe you have forgotten to mention that when you operate the different prayer books and use on the four passages from the prayer book this will also cost you some of your special attack.

 

 

 

If you don't have enough special attack bar you cannot simply use any of the passages from any of the prayer books

 

 

 

I think you can usually perform 5-7 passages from the book on full special attack bar before it runs out therefore you needing to wait for the bar to increase again.

Anyway I did some research myself into the Exact amount of energy used for each passage of the books. The special energy bar goes down by a 1/4 which is equal to 25% of the bar every time you use one of the special passages from any of the holy books.

 

 

 

I also did some research into blessing the symbols of Zamorak and Saradomin myself because it was mentioned previously. So I ended up buying 10 Unpowered Symbols-Zamorak and taking it turns to bless each one and see if the special energy bar goes down. After blessing all 10 I found out that you don't use up any of the special energy bar while blessing symbols. I then bought 10 unblessed symbols of Saradomin and blessed all 10 resulting in none of the special energy bar being used up.

 

 

 

So after all the research it is correct you can only use four passages from a prayer book before the special energy bar is used up and that blessing symbols does not use up any of the special energy Bar.

Prayer points do get lowered, but...special energy bar? How did you measure that? Did you have a summoned familiar and looked at the bar there? What special energy bar?

Sorry Sports Guy I seemed to have made a mistake,I was meant to say the special attack bar not a special energy bar goes down. I did this by having my Barrel chest Anchor wielded and by using the different passages from each of the prayer books in turn and noted that the bar goes down a 1/4 or 25% of the way down.
