Well, I never treated her like [cabbage], I gave her all the respect she deserved, and basically just acted like she's the only real person I care about. That's all it takes. Relationships are not hard, so when we ended on such a good note it's a mixture of our personalities and what we discussed prior to the break up itself; which would be my issue with Taylor. I'm happy to say that in a few weeks time we'll actually be speaking again. Taylor wants to meet her too.

Serious Discussion Time.

Ok so for my government class we have been given a bill (apparently a real one, I won't go into details though). The basic idea of the bill is to educate teachers and students (I think from 7-12th grade) about dating violence. The teachers would be given training so they could do the teaching students and whatnot, and watch out for it(I think they only have to do the training once) and students learn it (idk how many times). There is an opt-out option for parents who don't want their kids learning this in school.

 

I ask you to argue for it or against it.

 

I personally am against it.

1. I believe it is the family's responsibility to teach their children about this. if they don't then it is to their own detriment, but where the family ends isn't where government begins.(even with the opt-out i don't think the government should be raising kids)

2. The cost would have to be large, to educate so many teachers and give them materials or whatnot would have to be expensive.

3. I don't think these programs work. We are taught not to use drugs, smoke, drink, or have sex in school. But the problems persist, perhaps are even getting worse.

4. Even if they do work, how would you measure success?

5. You can educate someone, but you can't force them to make good decisions.

6. Witnessed violence often goes unreported, why would this change that. (See Kitty Genovese case for more info)

7. The abused themselves often deny being abused, and even when they know they are will stay with the abuser, and not report it.(Stockholm syndrome and such)

8. Different relationships and cultures have their ideas of what's acceptable. If a partner strikes the other on the face but no real injury is done, this might be acceptable to some people(Note: Not to me, but I'm just trying to account for everyone who would raise hell if this was passed.)

9. Abuse of male partners is even more under reported, and the natural inclination to assume the male is the abuser rather than the abused could cause misunderstandings and serious problems.

10. I could be incorrect but I think the abused has to charge the abuser for anything to be done legally. (Ie If you see it, you can tell someone and hopefully something can be done to help but you can't put them on trial for just seeing it.)

 

That's all I can think of for the moment. Obviously the bill is good at heart, but I think the costs would far outweigh any benefits.
