I am so [bleep]ing confused

I built a spiral staircase going to the bottom of the world (Minecraft) and put minecart tracks on it. At the bottom, I put a booster so I could get back up. I tested it out and everything worked fine. I tried it again and I only got about half way up. I thought that maybe the direction I faced messed it up or something. I tried it again and stayed facing forwards the whole time (That's what I did the first time) and it still didn't work. I thought that maybe I got really lucky the first time, so I made the booster longer. I tested it again and it worked just fine. Then I tried it again and it didn't [bleep]ing work again. I have no idea what the [bleep] is going on.
