The Covenants are on a mission to destroy humanity as a race. It is your job to stop them by any means necessary, by striking key objectives you put a dent in their war effort.

There's smaller intricacies I could go into but for the sake of tl;dr I won't get into them.

 

Call of Duty 4:

Baddies are getting nuclear bombs and stoof, find out who is behind it and stop them. Baddies blow up a nuclear bomb killing ur bros. Find baddie and kill him. Try not to get killed by baddies as you escape.

 

Call of Duty 5:

A baddie is mad that you killed the other baddie so he frames US people for the massacre of a bunch of Russkies. Russkies invade. Fight back the russkies, find the baddie and kill him, get the truth out.

 

Homefront:

Baddies invade America. Grrr I'm mad. Get some oil tankers to the US Army. Take the Golden Gate Bridge. End Game.

Pretty sure Call of Duty 5 was more of:

[garden tool] [cabbage] its WWII! Kill some Nazis and Japs!

I call that COD: WAW. It was never supposed to be CoD 5, people on the internet just called it that even though the makers said, yeah it's not CoD 5.
