Napalm has internet access and goes to college, so i don't think he throws spears at things in his spare time, But talking to him has showed that, while he has choice, it seems like only a part of the huge variety we have.

 

Variety is pretty much the perfect word to describe the situation. It all depends on which part of the country you live in. Cities are relatively modernized, and have access to recent technology, but on the same country you can have people living in inhumane conditions. The northern parts of the country, those close to Bolivia and Paraguay, are very poor, no internet access, and saying they live in huts is not too far from reality. (Think something like the village from Resident evil 4, minus the giants and mind control).

Yeah, there's people from just about every possible economic class here. Though some will argue that I'm wrong, I think there are enough programs and such that no one has to constantly live in misery and homelessness and such.

 

Not to sound cocky, but you probably already know all this because everybody knows about America.

 

On that note, I think the problem with modern Social Studies and such is that you study the country's past and culture and stuff. I can know all I want about what people in Bolivia eat, and how they became independent, but it doesn't really matter if I actually have to sit down and talk to someone from there.

Reminds me of the Israel vs Palestine thread, someone, I think it was Nifflin, told his personal experiences with people from refugee camps in Gaza I think it was, and wether he was telling the truth or not, the stories were far away from the kind of information you can find in newspapers or the internet.

Exactly, you can talk all about Palestinian suicide bombers and whatnot, terrorism and the like. But when you just sit down with the average guy from anywhere, I think you'd probably find they're just that, average.

I hear that the Vietnamese on a whole are quite charitable and kindhearted individuals. And that from a veteran of the Vietnam war.

Completely unrelated, but I hate how when you buy brand new shoes the laces are always tied in a weird way.

As I understand it, Vietnam had/ has a very bad taste in it's mouth from colonialism. After having just kicked out the French, a bunch of new big, white guys with guns isn't exactly what they were looking for, communists or not.
