I don't really get how neckbeards happen. Do they like intentionally shave everything above their chin and leave the rest? Does it naturally grow that way? I think it's supposed to mean they don't care about hygene, but that would result in a hobo beard type thing, not a neckbeard

I think it just refers to having stubble under your chin because you don't shave often enough

It's probably both.

Like for me as an example, my hair just naturally grows under the chin/jaw.
