AndyPandy
I'm looking at building new computer. I think I've got all the parts I need, apart from keyboard/mouse an screen. How's this? http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/Produ ... ax-Plus-21 http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/Produ ... DVI-TV-Out http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/Produ ... 560-Socket http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/Produ ... 00-C5-DDR2 http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/Produ ... reme-Audio http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/Produ ... U-S022460- http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/Produ ... Socket-AM2 http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/Produ ... -64Bit-OEM Updated now, what do you think? So don't let anyone tell you you're not worth the earth, These streets are your streets, this turf is your turf, Don't let anyone tell you that you've got to give in, Cos you can make a difference, you can change everything, Just let your dreams be your pilot, your imagination your fuel, Tear up the book and write your own damn rules, Use all that heart, hope and soul that you've got, And the love and the rage that you feel in your gut, And realise that the other world that you're always looking for, Lies right here in front of us, just outside this door, And it's up to you to go out there and paint the canvas, After all, you were put on the earth to do this, So shine your light so bright that all can see, Take pride in being whoever the [bleep] you want to be. Sam
For the screen, I reccomend you try this - it's 22 inches wide, and only £120, which is a great price IMO  2257AD.TUMBLR.COM
Hobgoblinpie
I'm not a fan of ATI graphics cards, so I don't know how good/bad it is. However, you need a 64bit operating system to actually utilise the 4gb of RAM, so: http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/Produ ... -64Bit-OEM For your monitor, I recommend a Hanns G: http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/Searc ... =Hanns%20G One problem you'll have with your current setup is that the Processor doesn't correspond to the motherboard. The motherboard you've chosen is for an Intel LGA775 socket, whereas Socket AM2 is what your chosen processor uses. If you want a gigabyte motherboard, choose from either: http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/Produ ... Phenom-AMD http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/Produ ... 560-Socket Also, since you live in the UK (I assume), you should check out Crystech (http://www.crystech.co.uk). I bought my PC from there. They do a very good job of custom building their computers (they build them to their specifications, you choose the best one in your price range from their catalogue). However, since they are based in one location, it may be hard to get to them. for example: http://www.crystech.co.uk/files/html/products_10.html For £369 it's quite a good deal. This is their pre-built custom catalogue: http://www.crystech.co.uk/files/html/__catalog.html POH Agility Course, Please Support!
OldJoe
May i suggest you get a prebuilt? You pick a socket 775 motherboard while your cpu is socket AM2, you pick DDR3 pc12800 while your motherboard supports DDR2 from pc2 5300 to pc2 8500, you pick a soundcard that i've heard alot of trouble with the drivers and the fact that you need really good speakers to notice any difference and you have also picked a 32bit version of vista while you haven chosen a 1gb graphics card together with 4gb of ram. The build is very very incompatible. Hobgoblin: 150£ is a very good deal for the 4870. However, ATI will be the first to launch the new DX11 cards which will arrive in around october, so i would wait until then. AndyPandy
Just updated, hopefully the components now all fit. I've added it together, and your system comes to £509.76, including shipping. Here's the system I customised on crystech: Crystal Synergy USB Ports: 6x USB (2.0) DVDRW Software: Nero Express Monitor: 22" TFT Widescreen Monitor 5Ms Response Sound: Soundblaster Compatible High Definition 5.1 Sound Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit Memory: 8GB 800MHz DDR2 RAM Processor: Athlon 64 AM2 7750 Dual Core Processor Hard Drive: 1000GB SATA HDD Optical Storage: 20x Dual Format Dual layer DVDRW Graphics card: 512MB Geforce 9800GT Keyboard & Mouse: Logitech Keyboard & Optical Mouse Speakers: Subwoofer Speaker System Network adapter: 10/100/1000 Lan While a bit more expensive, there is a lot more here than in your build. It costs £578.23, which includes £12 shipping and the sales tax (if you can claim it through a company, you can get £73.86 off the price). However, this is just a comparison, and you can get better systems for cheaper if you shop around. POH Agility Course, Please Support!
AndyPandy
Wow, that's pretty good. I'll look into it. Hobgoblinpie
Wow, that's pretty good. I'll look into it. Also, It's built already, so unless you were getting someone to build yours for free, it's another cost that you can save, as well as not have the possibility of screwing something up if you're doing it yourself (I've done it before, very easy to ahve something go wrong if you're unsure). If you already have a sound system and Keyboard and Mouse, you can save another £18 from the crystech setup, and if you don't mind about the Vista Aero, then you can save another £15.50 by using Vista home Basic 64bit. Bringing the cost down to £539.70. POH Agility Course, Please Support!
JoeDaStudd
Nope I'd redo the whole list. Case/PSU combo's normally come with rubbish quality psu which if they go can/will take down the rest of your system. Motherboard is very old, chipset wise, and isn't very upgradable. CPU is ok, but there are better ones for the money. HDD, maxtor aren't ranked as high as seagate, WD and samsung for a reason. Doubt you'll need a sound card. OEM gpu is an interesting one I've never seen what they come with. http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Microsof ... k-OEM-(DVD) http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/640-GB-W ... ache-89-ms http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/4GB-(2x2GB)-CorsairTwinX-DDR3-PC3-10666-(1333)-240-Pin-Non-ECC-Unbuffered-CAS-9-9-9-24 http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/450W-Cor ... r-Warranty http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/512MB-XF ... XX-EDITION http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Biostar- ... -Board-VGA http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/AMD-Athl ... 65W-Retail You'd have to find a case, it costs slightly more, but is more expandable. The only worse thing is the gpu, but all in all its more future proof. OldJoe
