Waterfiends Task

I can't keep avoiding it, I have 189 waterfiends to slay and I have no idea how to go about it. With only 1mil spare cash I'm not really willing to buy Karil's, so will black d'hide work? I've heard that an ancient staff works well on them :| ? If not, how long should I borrow an ss or zammy spear for? Also I know that a bunyip is a must, and that swallow whole scrolls really help, how many pouches and scrolls will be needed for this task? Along with that, any ideas of how many pray pots and sharks, or if its easier whats a good ratio of ppots to sharks? Lastly, how many runs do you think this will take? Sorry for sounding so n00bish, I've read through several guides on this including Kent's guide on how to collect charms, but I still feel that I have no idea what I'm doing #-o .

Ancient Staff+Rune Def will work. But Sara Sword or Zam Spear would be best. I'd say borrow it for 2-3 hours. I don't use any prayer as with karils and my magic lvl i can get away with it. I also use an Enchanted Excalibur to heal with. Bring 3 Bunyip pouches and a super restore potion. Don't summon a bunyip until you get in there. If you like you can bring some prayer potions and pray them until you're comfortable without praying. I'd Bring:

 

 

 

2 Super Attack and Strength Potions

 

Fire and Nature runes for alchs

 

3 Bunyip pouches and 100+ Swallow Whole scrolls

 

1 Super Restore and ~5 Prayer Potions

 

Rest Sharks or Monks

A few questions about praying, or the lack therof: If I were to pray, will mage or range pray prevent the most damage? Are you sure that not praying will work? Because every guide I've read has that as an integral part of the trip. Taking into account that my mage lvl is much worse than my def, would mage pray be better even if it attacks with range more?

I would take into consideration what your range and mage def are when in your gear. Which ever is less, pray that one. Lots of people suggest to pray, but i never prayed them, unless im using piety. It usually takes me about 2 trips to do a task that size. With the extra room for bringing more food instead of pots, and use the EE i can last a good amount of time, usually 2 bunyips worth.

From what I can understand, the I will be praying protect from range and the pray pots are only there until I feel comfortable there and from then on I can just bring more food. Any other suggestions (Also, the whip and def will be replaced with an ss)

You can use the Whip+Rune Defender. I've done it and manage to get the task done. But it took a lot longer. Its best to either borrow a SS or ZS, or just use the Ancient Staff if you can't get either of those.

If I were to use an ancient staff, would I have to adjust my inventory any? Also can you confirm that my strategy I laid out on my "bump" post is correct?

Whip+def>anything but zspear and ss

 

Just use it and dont bother with all the other wierd crush weapons.

 

Maybe you can get away with obby mace and zerker neck

Uh yeah, no idea what the guy above is talking about as you should really use a crush weapon at wfs.

 

Couple pieces of advice:

 

1) Take 2 bunyip pouches. You'll probably run out of summoning points so either dimiss it early or keep the super restore.

 

2) Most of the time, they'll drop a lot of raw food so you don't need to pray a lot. Just take 2-3 prayer pots to be safe. Also, banking takes about 60 seconds so it's ok if you have to do 2 trips.

 

3) Pray range if you must. Also, go on the other side of the river, you'll be a lot safer and you just need to pray mage against the dragons till you're out of their range.

 

4) Also, don't bring so much food as you'll be wasting some for the drops.

 

 

 

I've never tried the ancient staff thing but it should be the same thing really.
