Grogthurk
I'm happy with the way Jagex has changed the game. I may be the only one. But back in the day, people were given a choice. They could play the game, or they could scam, cheat, bot and a whole slew of other things to get ahead. I remember on several occasions quitting (in retrospect they were pauses) Runescape because of being victim of a scam, or frustration with botters. For example, one time I spent 20m on what I thought were Yew logs. Thanks for the Willow logs you botting sack of crap :) Whenever I had the chance I always tried to take the high road. I'm not perfect, I have snapped at noobs bothering me, but when I have been given a golden opportunity to rip someone off, I didn't. It just didn't feel fair. I thought of all the times it has happened to me, and why would I want them to quit? Runescape's name was being tarnished. Many a people would say "game's just filled with bots and 12 year olds." To be honest, that's how we as a community were acting. Always trying to lure people, or scam. So what'd Jagex do? They saved their name. Grand Exchange and trade limits, while incredibly frustrating at times, have saved the game. I can't get my Yews at 200 or less each, but I can take pride in knowing that whoever worked for my 400+ per log EARNED it. Though Runescape has been a bit baby-proofed, it was needed. The game is very difficult and time consuming, and whenever their has been an opportunity to exploit a bug or glitch (ie, 26king) people abuse it. So in the midst of all the whining about Jagex screwing over individuals, I look at the broader picture and say "You know what, I think it has been for the better". I had played a game called Ragnarok Online (on a private server, d'oh!) and I was ranked #1 for the class I played on the server and I was in the top guild. I was a high ranking member of my guild. I found out several of my guild members were cheating. 8/10 of our top members were cheating. Myself and the guild leader excluded. I reported the members, and the GM leaked that I had reported, so I was outed. I look at this incident and can be thankful that Jagex is much more mature. I trust Jagex to deal with cheaters, no matter who they are, and take care of business. What's the debate? I personally believe Jagex has made the game better, by removing the option to scam anymore. Players can't be trusted 100% with taking the high road. And the Runescape community frankly lost that right. Not saying members here on the forum, but the botters and 12 year olds (Not all) who blew it for all of us.
Shazarabbit
For example, one time I spent 20m on what I thought were Yew logs. Thanks for the Willow logs you botting sack of crap Really, if you weren't paying enough attention to the trade it's really your own fault. They looked different, you could move your mouse over it, and in the second screen it would tell you what it was anyway of which you could decline. Runescape's name was being tarnished. Many a people would say "game's just filled with bots and 12 year olds." To be honest, that's how we as a community were acting. Always trying to lure people, or scam. People just blame everything on younger kids, when this isn't the case. It was the players tarnishing their own game. There isnt alot of us who are outside the box as you are and wouldn't do these bad things. So what'd Jagex do? They saved their name. Grand Exchange and trade limits, while incredibly frustrating at times, have saved the game. So in the midst of all the whining about Jagex screwing over individuals, I look at the broader picture and say "You know what, I think it has been for the better". They took out the ability to help friends, at what cost? Yes we have a grand exchange that makes trading ALOT easier, but it's taken out a large part of why many people played. I know I myself, really lost interest after they removed the wilderness and trading restrictions. Why? The new wilderness is NOTHING like the old wilderness, for me it's taken the fun out of clans, it's taken the fun out of a spontanous Kalphite trip, when I need to have everything on me, and alot of money to do these things now. Previously we would share them around, and thus the lending system doesn't lend Barrows. I know these things had to be made, but some things were just too bubble wrapped for my lliking. One thing I will say I did like was the organization of the Quests tab, that was brilliant and the quick prayer option. I think I'm off topic but its early...lol. I really have no problem with people not taking the "high road" so to speak, it's their account they are risking ultimately, but then again I'm not someone who plays the game to get to the top, so maybe i'm looking at it from the wrong angle. stonewall337
26k isn't a glitch. I always, at least as far as I know, stand by what I say I will do in game. I have been scammed, so I just don't trust people unless they are in my clan or I know them very well. BTW: I don't see anything to debate here... archimage_a
I agree with Shazarabbit. But I would like to add that even for players who just enjoyed taking their time in leveling rather than just buying in, the Grand Exchange removed that. I tried to carry on as I used to, but the pressure is just too much. The ability to buy everything means that every skill is leveled on its own. I would also like to add that scamming made the game more real. It meant that people had something to talk about when doing endless leveling 'Could you believe it I was...and he was...and so I said....And he said...He almost had me' There is a whole dialogue missing from the game Yeah the people who tried to take the high road lost out, but it kept the rich from exploiting the game, you had to earn every level. http://www.uzzisoft..../archimage.jpegWell I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.
swampjedi
Really, if you weren't paying enough attention to the trade it's really your own fault. They looked different, you could move your mouse over it, and in the second screen it would tell you what it was anyway of which you could decline. Glad to know you're ALWAYS at the top of your game. If you recall, the appearance of logs was changed multiple times BECAUSE of this issue. *** I do appreciate the exchange. It was set up after I left, so coming back to a totally different economy has been odd. However, I like being able to sell the results of my skilling without standing around and spamming chat, or randomly hopping worlds - but frankly I'd like to have the ability to exchange freely as well. I loaned a friend ~50m in cash and items 2 years ago before I left members. Now that friend has quit, and there's no way to get all of that back. To be honest - though botting annoys me, I think Jagex has gone too far in getting rid of it. Sure that's heresy. But you know, I'd rather have botters than the "new wild" or "trade limits".
