A few fishing questions

Featured Replies

1) What is the fastest fishing exp possible?

2) I can average about 50k exp/hour barbarian heavy rod fishing. I've heard that shilo village is as fast if not faster. Is this true?

3) Could you give me exp/hour for both?

4) If barbarian heavy rod fishing is faster, should I drop fish as I catch them or drop an entire inventory at once (about 7 seconds)?

5) I've heard that you can fish and fletch bolts at the same time. Can you explain this?

6) Should I get 74 summoning for granite lobsters? (Would the bonus exp make up for the time it took to get charms?)

7) What is the bonus exp/hour for an ibis/granite lobster?

8) Is it true that sharks with shark gloves are faster exp than monkfish?

9) Do admiral pies significantly increase your exp/hour?

10) How many monkfish/sharks can you catch per hour at 99?

heavy rod fishing 50k/hr. Monks 30k/hr.

Granite lobster not worth th effort imo.

Definately drop entire invent. If u didi it one by one u would continually stop fishing and the clicking would be unbearable.

Sharks with gloves are about 25-30k an hour. To get 30k/hr you would need 95+ fishing. However the gloves disintegrate after 1k shark. For 99 fish u would need a lot of sets of gloves!

Admiral pies are a waste of time.

Heavy rod

2) I can average about 50k exp/hour barbarian heavy rod fishing. I've heard that shilo village is as fast if not faster. Is this true?

Wrong, it's much slower and you don't get strength/cook/agility xp.

3) Could you give me exp/hour for both?

Around 35k per hour at Shilo

4) If barbarian heavy rod fishing is faster, should I drop fish as I catch them or drop an entire inventory at once (about 7 seconds)?

Make them into Roe/Caviar/Fish offcuts instead, and drop what you don't need (offcuts).

5) I've heard that you can fish and fletch bolts at the same time. Can you explain this?

Never heard of it

6) Should I get 74 summoning for granite lobsters? (Would the bonus exp make up for the time it took to get charms?)

Yes, get 74. Not just for the lobsters either. Summoning is a great skill and you will benefit a lot from a higher summoning, not just from the lobster

7) What is the bonus exp/hour for an ibis/granite lobster?

About 2-5k, I'd say. I'm not sure though. Remember the lobster also forages sharks and swordfish that add to your profits.

8) Is it true that sharks with shark gloves are faster exp than monkfish?

I don't think so, you get sharks REALLY slow

9) Do admiral pies significantly increase your exp/hour?

Not really, but it doesn't hurt

10) How many monkfish/sharks can you catch per hour at 99?

Fishing isn't good money...like ever. If it's money you want, fishing isn't the place to turn

My recommendation is to do Monks. They're about 30k/hr, but they're huge money makers (as far as fishing goes). Sure there are better ways, but in comparison to other methods, and them being highly AFK-able, I would just do them.

All right, thanks ;D

Most of these have been answered, but here's a few I felt I could add some more information on:

5) I've heard that you can fish and fletch bolts at the same time. Can you explain this?

This was true only very briefly. From what I understand, when Jagex re-tooled the running animation, players were upset because you could no longer run and eat at the same time. One of the employees made a quick fix to solve the run/eat issue, and they threw in an added benefit: you could multitask other things as well. So for a few hours, players could fletch while woodcutting or alch while fishing. But Jagex reverted the change pretty quickly (too unbalancing), so now you can't.

6) Should I get 74 summoning for granite lobsters? (Would the bonus exp make up for the time it took to get charms?)

I think so. I get tons of swordfish and sharks from my lobsters. Additionally, by the time you get 74 summoning, you'll also be able to use fruit bats (free money while doing other skills) and arctic bears (hunting boost).

9) Do admiral pies significantly increase your exp/hour?

No, not really. I used admiral pies for a while with a monkfish, and I'd catch two or three monkfish before the whole boost wore off. It was onerous, expensive, and ultimately not beneficial. Ibises and lobsters give a much cheaper, more enduring boost.

Despite their slower speed than heavy rod fishing or Shilo fishing, I prefer monkfish myself, because they are slow enough that I can read articles while only glancing at the screen occasionally.

Lol, I saw that and changed my post. Dangit, though, I was too late. :)

Anyways, I looked around some, and I found this very interesting video on Youtube demonstrating how to alch while heavy rod fishing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e86KlYagOpM

Apparently, there is a minimum wait time between catches, so if you alch real quick after you catch a fish and then click on the fishing spot again, you don't lose any fishing speed (since you wouldn't have caught anything during that time span anyways). You could possibly do this with fletching bolts, if it works with alching - just feather some bolts immediately after you catch a fish, then click on the spot again. (Definitely doesn't sound as fun as literally doing both at the same time, though!)

Thanks... if I keep this up I'll get 99 fletching before fishing

I've Got 72 - 81 fishing on sharks so far (planning on 99 from them), admiral pies have come in handy alot (even after I no longer actually needed them).

With monkfish they probably don't help as much since monkfish are not that slow to begin with but when it comes to sharks I definately feel the +5 fishing levels help (could be psychological though :wall: ), and even if they don't help that much with monkfish, they cost about the same as 1 monkfish and would probably be better than no boost at all..
