July 31, 200916 yr I'm not sure if this goes here or some other section of the forum but here it goes... Recently I have been looking for another game like runescape to play, but my main concern is that it will just be a massive grind fest. In order to prevent this from happening I created this thread to rank some popular MMO's for how much you need to grind. Since we have all had experience with runescape, it's grind level will be dubed 1. Example: I would rate Eve a .3 on the grind scale, mostly because your skills develop even when you arn't playing. So I want to know, if runescape was a 1 on the grindscale, what would these games be? I want people who have actual experience to rate them in comparason to RS. Warhammer? WoW? Guild wars? Lord of the rings online? These are the ones I am most interested in, but if you have a suggestion for a less grind-ful game please add it to the list.
July 31, 200916 yr This. Wait til September. It's not that long, just 2 months. I dont need a siggy no moar.
July 31, 200916 yr Runescape is the worst kind of grind because it doesn't hide it. You have to do repetitive tasks to do quests, and it doesn't combine them. All other games on the other hand will have grind, but at least the grind is somewhat hidden in quests and story lines. Ray is right though, Aion should be pretty good for less grind when it comes out. Sig by IkuraiYour Guide to Posting! Behave or I will send my Moose mounted Beaver launchers at you!
July 31, 200916 yr * Lineage II (100 days) * RuneScape (100 days) * RF Online (65 days) * Archlord (60 days) * MapleStory (60 days) * Vanguard (35 days) * Final Fantasy XI (35 days) * Lord of the Rings Online (27 days) * EverQuest 2 (25 days) * World of Warcraft (15 days) * Star Wars Galaxies (10 days) * City of Heroes / Villains (6 days) * Dark Age of Camelot (3 days) * Guild Wars (2 days) * Warhammer (10 days) * Age of Conan (25 days) * Pirates of the Burning Sea (7 days) Source: [1] What this list means is how many days played does it take to get to the "max level" in a game. It's pretty accurate from what I've played on the list to max level (AoC should really be 10 days, not 25). Needless to say putting runescape as a 1 on the grind scale isn't going to help because it is the worst game there is to actually grind in other than Lineage II. (And I think they are talking about old school Lineage II, not the Gracia expansion Lineage II). Think about it though, runescape takes 2400 hours of gameplay roughly to max out all of your skills... I would wait for Aion, Ray gave a good link to my post on it. There should be an open beta in about a month, so chances are you can get in on that if you want. What are you most interested in, PvP or PvE? If you absolutely loathe PvP than you might want to stay away from Aion (it's totally possible to PvE your way up to 50 and just PvE, but most of the game revolves around the PvP conflict). LotRO is always a decent choice I have heard for a PvE game. You could try WoW too, although keep in mind that the "end game" in WoW is either reputation grinding, battlegrounds/arena grinding or raiding (which not everyone is a fan of). WoW will probably feel the least grindy out of the games, especially since it's level spread is between 1-80, where as other comparable games time wise are 1-40 or 1-50. Aion I would rank taking around the same time as WoW to hit max (level 50), this is just a guess based off of what I have both read and experienced so far (level 22 in closed beta). I don't think you should just a game just on it's "grind" or not though, but what there actually is to do in it. I will say that you want to stay away from WAR and AoC, they both are losing rapid subscribers. I would wager both of them are around 100,000 subs now , which sucks because both of them need players around you to have any fun. Guild Wars isn't really a true MMO I think, it's more like a more active online version of Diablo II if anything, although if you have never played it I would recommend it as the actual campaign experience in the game is wonderful, and quite challenging at times. The PvP in Guild Wars is good too if you like instanced PvP, and if you can get lucky enough to get a good guild for it. Meh feel free to ask me anything though, I think I've played and read enough about MMOs that I should be able to answer most questions.
