DUELMASTER30
I've been thinking of getting a new computer lately, most likely a laptop, but I can't decide what kind to get. I've been wanting a Mac because of how they're put together, how sleek they feel and the OS seems relatively easy to use for me. People have been telling me to get a Linux one though, so I was wondering which it would be. I'd rather not get a windows, I've had enough of them for now, so I'd rather people not suggest that. My budget is 1,000-1,200 USD, so if anyone could suggest a comp in that range it would help a lot. I'd be mainly using it for gaming and school work, so hopefully they'd be able to run Fall Out 3, Oblivion, and RS in HD. Any tips for using Boot camp w/ a mac or installing windows and Linux would help. ElkNight
I say linux. But not really sure where a good deal would be. I also love how you say fallout 3, oblivion, and then Runescape HD  8,180WONGTONG IS THE BEST AND IS MORE SUPERIOR THAN ME#1 Wongtong stalker.Im looking for some No Limit soldiers! Laura
Linux is cheaper, a Mac is more expensive. Most users here will just site their preferences and since Windows isn't on the list, people will say Linux. Everyone else who says suggests a Mac will be called a fanboy/girl. Just a heads up on how biased opinions are on here. I wouldn't take my call from a forum; only you know your needs and preferences. In addition, you would only be able to afford the MacBook. The MacBook Pro would go over your budget when you include taxes unless you're a student or work for the government (including military). If you care, I have the old MacBook and love it. All of those games are playable, RSHD on full (forums and Youtube videos attest to Oblivion and Fallout 3). Bootcamp is a breeze and I have partitions of Windows 7 and Ubuntu. I don't use Ubuntu because I can't figure out how to install Flash/Java (and there's a variety of different packages), but other Linux users say I'm [developmentally delayed]ed, so what do I know? If you already feel comfortable with OS X, I would buy a Mac. If you've never used an OS, I wouldn't let someone coax you into it before you try it. You can install Linux on your current system (I am assuming Windows) or even on a USB drive.

If so I was looking at one today, it seemed nice, it had the same sized screen & the same specs as the MacBook Pro, yet it was $200 cheaper. I may just get that one, and then add upgrades or buy Snow Leopard when it comes out with the money I save. It was just a little thicker, but with that much money saved who gives a damn about maybe 1/2 of an inch lol. I also have an iphone and an extensive iTunes library, so a Mac would probably work better for that. Airport Express is amazing me atm too  Now that I'm looking at it more, I'll probably just get a mac, a Linux just seems like too much work for me, I just want a simple computer that will work when I take it out of the box. If anyone could help me decide between the two, it seems like an obvious choice to me but I want to be sure: $999.00: 2.13GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 2GB DDR2 Memory 160GB hard drive NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics Standard keyboard White polycarbonate shell $1199.00: 13-inch: 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 2GB Memory 160GB hard drive SD card slot Built-in 7-hour battery NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics [hide=99s]47,297th to 99 Attack, 12/10/0847,898th to 99 Hitpoints, 3/29/0978,286th to 99 Strength, 4/5/0936,125th to 99 Range, 6/7/09, 12:30 in the morning.70,280th to 99 Defence, 4/16/1067,781st to 99 Magic, 8/13/10Somethingth to 99 Slayer on some day during the Summer (I forgot to write it down)169,099th to 99 Cooking , 4/9/11Idk what to 99 fm at some pointIdk what to 99 prayer on 1/28/2012?? 99 thieving 12/30/2015?? 99 herblore 1/2/2016, ?? 99 dungeoneering 9/5/2016[/hide]Even if it's a dumb story, telling it changes other people just the slightest little bit, just as living the story changes me. Laura
I think the $200 for the Pro is worth the upgrade, but it all depends on your budget. Which, if it's firm, then go with the MacBook. I have the old 2.4Ghz aluminium MacBook. For $200 you get: Aluminium unibody body, LED backlit display, Larger color gamut and contrast, Backlit keyboard, Faster CPU and DDR3 RAM, Multi-touch trackpad, External battery display, SD card slot, Longer battery life (+2hours), Marginally lighter and thinner. You also get a built in battery, which I'm not sure if that's a big problem. But still, And which ever machine you end up purchasing, Snow Leopard is just $10 when it comes out. Are you a student? You can cut the price by like ~9% and get a free iPod touch.
stevepole
With my experience with both I find Macs easier then Linux. Linux requires more work then I want to put into an OS. I personally use OSX and love it. I would highly recommend.
Kaphias
x3 for the Mac. As Laura said, if you can drop the $200 for the MBP, do. I have a 3 year old MacBook, and it will still run some fairly demanding stuff, even with only 64mb of VRAM... the 9400M will be greatin the MBP. 8,325th to 99 Firemaking 3/9/08 | 44,811th to 99 Cooking 7/16/084,968th to 99 Farming 10/9/09 | Runescaper August 2005-March 2010Tip.it Mod Feb. 2008-Sep. 2008 | Tip.it Crew Sep. 2008-Nov. 2009

Laura
You just miss the longer the battery life, SD card slot, and screen aesthetics (the earlier ones had washed out blacks, etc) so it seems like a pretty good deal. I'd say go for it. Refurbs come with new exteriors, batteries, and parts depending on the issue.
