I've been off for about 2 1/2 weeks, but it was for gaining EP on a PvP world if I remember rightly.

They're probably casting one of the strike spells. They make their magic attack as low as possible so they'll never hit the spider and then just mage away. It's an easy way to train magic afk. It seems to have become popular recently, since lately I've been seeing it every time I go there.
