is there anyway to set this as my default format for paint?

I don't think so, unless some registry editing is required (Microsoft want you to be an expert at their Operating Systems to be able to use them well).

 

 

 

I believe Paint in Windows 7 automatically defaults to .png though.

If you type .png at the end of filename it will save as a PNG , Even if it says something else in the drop down box.

I use Paint.Net and that program has .png as default for me.
