August 19, 200916 yr NOTE: I copy/pasted this from another post I did on a Halo 3 forum... Okay I now hate my internet. I'm trying to help my friend get his 45 in Team Slayer and I disconnect more than 75% of the time. It's instantanious disconnection... We have 3 things "sucking" our connection. Xbox Live, Laptop, Phone. XBL we all know an love. <333 Laptop uses our wireless router shown here : http://www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/products/WRT160N Phone is Vonage here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vonage I know my internet is okay, because when I connect directly to the cable modem, I don't DC. But when I'm connected to the wireless router (with an e-net cable) I get disconnected all the **** time. Could it be a problem with my set-up? Is there too much junk running over the internet? Could it be my e-net cable? This is really pissing me off now, I'm kind of afraid to play MLG for fear of leaving my friends and teammates behind. Help? :( My Gamercard | Click for Blog | Mining Guide | Illumination
August 19, 200916 yr The obvious answer would be something is wrong with the router. Does the laptop disconnect at all when connected to the router? (or even better, plug the laptop in with the Ethernet cable and see if it d/c's). It may just be that you need to set up some settings on your router. Go to 192.168.1.1 and put in your routers default username/password. You could try following This guide and forward the ports needed for XBL and see if that is an issue.

August 20, 200916 yr Author When I'm home alone, everything goes to my xbox. But it's when my mom is home, always on the phone and on FaceBook. *facepalm* Yesterday everything went smoothly, playing MLG 3v3 customs, won every single game no lag/dcs. With each and every possible combo of 3s. :P My Gamercard | Click for Blog | Mining Guide | Illumination

August 21, 200916 yr Does it by chance disconnect when someone calls your house? I noticed that it does now... When my mom got on facebook this morning I got disconnected... If you're using a 2.4 ghz wireless phone then you probably are getting interference since that is the same frequency that the typical wireless router uses. Open up your router using the same method posted earlier and look for channel settings. You'll want to put it at the opposite of what it is set at right now, if it is set to 1, change it to 11 and vice versa. Edit: Also if this doesn't work but you can confirm it is the problem (call your house with wireless phone is plugged in, see if it disconnects, call your house with wireless phones unplugged and a corded phone plugged in instead) I believe there is something called a filter you can look into, or you can buy a 5.8 ghz phone.

I had the same problem, but my cellular phone isn't 5Ghz compatible so I had to buy a dual-band router.
August 22, 200916 yr Author Meh. I'll deal with it. Just play with teammates who can make up for me quitting out. Or go beast at the beginning. When my step dad moves out we get a dedicated T3 connection for our gaming. :) :) :) Bought my iMac today. Can't wait til it gets here. Now to push my dad for a MacBook Pro. :D :D :D My Gamercard | Click for Blog | Mining Guide | Illumination
