Router Problem

Featured Replies

Recently this past month I have been getting a problem that whenever I turn on my laptop it wont connect to my router. Instead this always happens:

The router is a D-Link DIR-615. When I first got the router and laptop they always connected. I've tried choosing the repair option on my laptop but it doesn't fix it. The only way I can get it to work is by unpluging power from the wireless router and then pluging it back in. Then my laptop reconnects and I can get internet.

Anyone know what's causing this?

Where is the router/laptop located? You're getting a terrible signal strength.

It's because you're attempting to go through Windows to try and fix your router. You're going to need to access your router's configuration settings via the address provided to you by the manufacturer. In the case of a Linksys router (which may or may not work with a D-Link router) it is 192.168.1.1 (attempt to copy and paste this into the address bar should the link not work). It's not worth toggling any setting to figure out the problem, so I would restore it to the default and change any settings you desire from there (for example, adding a password, security encryption, name, etc). Note that to access this webpage, your computer must be temporarily hardwired to the router.

To answer your question, no I do not know why it is doing it. What I do know is that I experienced a similar problem using a a Linksys router where it wouldn't always connect. Restoring the default setting, essentially reseting the router, worked wonders.
