my stats:

hp 94

a 94

s 93

d 93

r 85

p 80

This will be my first and probably last time fighting one.

I have black dragon hide and rune armor. plenty of pots , ancients is possible

I just don't want to lose a whip or other quality item.

My goal is kill one then get the h out of there.

Thanks for any help.

you can easily fight one. Just have a leaf bladed sword on stab with an antifire shield/dfs. wear black d hide top and bottom with dragon boots and your best gloves. ring of wealth to increase drops! Bring 1 antifire pot, 3 p pots (just incase) and the rest food. you could bring a super pot if you want. pray melee and piety.

If they don't walk up to you and keep blasting fire on you like other metallics, you could do it with a range pot and an antifire pot.

I did it praying melee with antifire pot and rune cbow+broad bolts.

Whichever way you choose to do it, you should be fine. Mage would be more expensive, but you can easily (and cheaply) range or melee it.

One question. Why pray melee if you're ranging it? I believe that it only uses magic and range if you're not in the melee range of it.

But like it's been said. You can melee and range it. Melee might be faster, but range should be cheaper.

This for melee:

And for Range just change up the boots, rings, vambraces if no Barrow Gloves. Broad Bolts should do just fine.

With your stats you'll do fine.

Heh, I'd never killed a metal drag before then, so I wasn't aware I could just take a couple steps back. Anyways, it was a bit of a safety measure as well, I'm not into big boss monsters, always afraid of death ;P

The real question is: Can you do it expensively? ::'

And even when I do range them, I stand up close and use protect from melee. They only use range attacks at long range.

Either way, you're praying from one style and taking hits from only mage.

Even if you melee, you shouldn't use more than 4 monks or so.

With only 93 def they will 1 hit ko you 100% of the time. You need max total before you even attempt mith drags.
