Crash Course in IRC Needed: Help configuring ChatZilla

Can someone explain to me how it works? I tried to use Tif's IRC client today and it did not go well. Specifically I'd like to know how to change my nickname because it shows up as 'hawkxs | joined xxx date blah blah blah' and it bothers me. Anything else I should know as well because I am totally new to IRC.

 

 

 

Can someone walk me through configuring ChatZilla to connect automatically to Tip.it's IRC? It says irc.tip.it and the server name are invalid urls and the guide only goes into detail on how to configure mIRC.

That's not your nickname, that's your name. When you join via the TIF IRC client, you automatically get your forum username and join date put in the name field when you connect, this is so we can more easily track forum users (because quite often people just sign up to spam IRC, this lets us see 1 day old accounts, for example). If you connect to IRC with the TIF client your nick will be "hawkxs" (there is a difference between nick and name). If you don't want this to happen you would need to connect with your own IRC client, such as mIRC.

 

 

 

Our server details (which you will need if you use mIRC):

 

Server - irc.tip.it

 

Port - 6667

 

Channel - #runescape

I think these are the right settings for chatzilla.

 

/nick hawkxs

 

/attach irc.tip.it

 

/join #runescape

 

 

 

The port number should be auto used, now right click the #runescape tab and select load on startup.

 

The next time you load chatzilla it up will auto connect to tip.it and use what ever name you used for the /nick.
