October 12, 200916 yr Hello all! :)(Sorry if this was posted in the wrong section, but it seemed to fit the under the heading "tech") Some friends at work and school have persuaded me to get an XBox 360, and now I am really looking forward to getting it. However I am unsure what I need to play it on? I will be setting it up in the shelf next to my bed (perfect for midnight gaming sessions eh?) and at the moment I currently have a second computer and monitor in this location (an old 17" display) My question is would this work as a monitor for the XBox 360; and what adapter would I require for it?OR Will I need to purchase another one; if so one that could work with the console and my computer would be nice, and at a cheap price too. Thanks in advance. (Signature Work in Progress)
October 12, 200916 yr You'll need this to hook it up to a computer monitorhttp://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360vgahdcable/default.htm Runescape player since 2005 Ego Sum Deus Quo Malum Caligo et Barathum
October 12, 200916 yr Author Well, any particular size?Just checked the size of what I could probably fit in there, turns out the old monitor was 15" :-#I could fit a 17", and I guess a 19" Widescreen. Is all this HD stuff needed for the XBox experience? Or would I not notice it on such a small screen anyway? You'll need this to hook it up to a computer monitorhttp://www.xbox.com/...ble/default.htm Thanks for the link! :D Bookmarked should I require it. (Signature Work in Progress)
October 12, 200916 yr A HD TV isn't needed, but as an 360 owner myself, I would recommend it. You could probably get a small Samsung TV quite cheap. 2257AD.TUMBLR.COM
October 12, 200916 yr I picked up an old AV-Switcher box from a friend a couple of years ago, did the trick perfectly for connecting any 3-pinned (Red, Yellow, White) appliances to a monitor. It had a Monitor-Input (VGA), and 4 other inputs for those 3-pinned appliances, Xbox included, and also had a port to connect the box to your computer, getting rid of any annoying cable-changes. Was very useful! Can't find a link for any around though, which is a bit annoying. Came in handy for lots of things so I'm glad I picked that up rather than just an Xbox cable, I like to steer clear of Microsoft anyway, bit dodgy from my experience. Maybe a local-electronics store could help you out?

Maybe a local-electronics store could help you out? This seems much too complicated for what a simple xbox cable will do for you. I used an Xbox DVI cable for a while to use mine on my monitor, worked out nicely. Chances are a decent size monitor is already "HD ready". If you only have a 15" though that seems to just be way too small to play on period.

Well if you can play it on a 9.2" screen (see here) (Link goes to Amazon.com, for those who are cautious)Then I'm sure I can cope on a 15". Bear in mind this unit is going to be right next to my bed, so even getting a huge screen wouldn't be ideal. I guess I will shop around for the cheapest 17" / 19" TV/Monitor. Need to get the best price possible though as I also have a lot of other items on my wish-list :PIf I fail looking for a new monitor, then I will give the cable a go. Thanks for your help so far people :) (Signature Work in Progress)

The only thing you need to make sure is that it has a DVI or VGA port in the back and isn't just an untatchable cable.

YeahWell a new monitor/TV would be awesome, considering my old one also has a thunderfly stuck behind the screen XDSo far I have been looking at:http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/5749551/LG-19-M198WD-Freeview-Widescreen-LCD-TV/Product.html# Orhttp://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/8986333/Samsung-Series-4-450-19-LE19B450-HD-Ready-Freeview-LCD-TV/Product.html I was also offered to get one from £130 from a friend who works in a computer store. Both of those would checkout with an XBox 360 I assume right? Thanks to all who helped though, getting to know my options has really helped me and made me look forward to getting the 360 even more :D (Signature Work in Progress)
