If you buy the iron ore and coal and smith unf. steel bolts you can make a profit there. The profit margin isn't very high but you can still make a profit. However, I noticed that the iron ore prices are rising rather rapidly, so make sure you check and make sure you can still make a profit before you buy the supplies.

Best way is to do a few trial runs yourself, for me I find that bringing noted Mith ores and noted Coal, making

plates and alching them is giving me a profit, but then again: I did not buy the ores or nature runes.

My method:

Bring X amount of noted mithril and 2Y amount of noted coal. Bring some SC hammers if you have them. Of course, you'll also need some cash (Just bring like 2 mill and you should be covered for quite a while  )

So you have 2 spots for the noted ores, 1 spot for money, and maybe a few SC tools. If you plan on fixing the machine ever, pick up a regular hammer to save chargers on your SC hammers and a bucket or two full of water.

Load up coal 20 at a time until there's 200 in the machine. Then go for 20 mithril at a time. As the bars come out, take em and make mithril bolts (unf). If you don't plan on helping with the machine, bring along the proper amount of feathers (Mith ore x10) and just fletch them while you wait for bars to come out/cool down.

Analysis:

Mithril and coal have gone up slightly since I last did this. Profit margins maybe a lot lower than before. To improve profit, use coal from MTK.

I do 20 coal and 20 mithril at a time since it's a lot easier to keep track of the ores and the nice and even numbers fit nicely together.

if your goal is to make money with smithing you may want to rethink which skill to ues for that.

However if you want to atleast break even I think mith bolts are the way to go at blast furnace.

Just a minor nitpick here - I'd say 2X instead of 2Y, but that isn't too important. :P But yes, apart from that, I'd go with what Sinkhan's said - I followed that method and it worked. I got over 40k/h exp without SC hammers there (I think) Making mithril bolts. It's also enjoyable as you can talk to the people there. Oh, and bring Varrock Armour if you have it, V2 and V3 speeds up the smithing animation.

Yes... Yes, that's what he said.

:D

I rechecked the prices, due to the rapid increase in the prices of iron ore it is no longer profitable to make unf. steel bolts anymore. If the iron ore prices drop back down to ~100 gp where they should be, than it is profitable even with the cost of unnoting the ores to make unf. steel bolts.

P.S. Look at the 180 day iron ore graph. They clearly got merched.
