Slayer tasks that are Mage-worthy

Featured Replies

I'd like to train my Magic skill a little on some of my Slayer tasks. It seems I run into monsters with high Magic defense or aren't safe-spottable. I know some dragons are able to be maged, but is there a good list of tasks that are good training for the skill? Any that can be profitable if I already have a load of runes (don't have to buy them)?

You CAN burst Nechs, but that's not a very good idea.

Also with any task that can be done as a boss monster, mage is viable. DKS for dagannoth, for example.

I would say that you can use mage with varying success (and by "success" I mean you will probably take a loss) on the following tasks:

  • Abyssal Demons
  • Nechryael
  • Any metal dragon
  • Any type of demon
  • Dagannoth

When I have the resources to explore this further I can give you a more definitive list, but from the jump, these tasks are probably the weakest to Magic out of them all. You can definitely forget maging any non-metal Dragon task, and you can definitely forget maging anything with a Magic-like attack (Abberants, Bloodveld, Cave Horrors).

Good luck with your Maging, though. :)

Thanks! It looks like Slayer was never really meant to go well with Magic. I've got Bloodvelds right now and it's just so much easier to melee or range them...that's usually what it came down to for me. "Do I WANT to waste my time maging them?" and the answer was usually, "no, my Magic skill is high enough." After months of training Slayer with melee and range, however, I'm actually stronger in those combat skills than Magic (for the first time in a LONG time).

I'll do some more searching, but it looks like it's not really viable...which is a shame, because with the exception of the Barrows, it doesn't really "pay" to use Magic in combat. I'll never be one of those "splash" trainers, either.
