But what I want to know if there is anyway free/cheap straight forward way to automatically synchronise large amounts of files between two computers (eg laptop and desktop) both running windows 7 on the same network?

 

Because essentially I'd like (in an ideal world) when I go home for my laptop to update all my backup files for like music documents videos etc on my desktop.

But then be able to work on say an essay on my desktop and the file will be updated on my laptop for when I head back to uni.

 

So is there anyway to automate this kind of action?

 

If you confused by my description think Xmarks but for files.

Setup a workgroup for the PCs then look into using .bat files to copy the files back and forth.

Once your made the .bat file simply schedule a task.

 

All of this can be done using the builtin tools windows comes with.

Or using a VPN or remote desktop connection maybe? Or it couldn't do what is wanted here?
