I updated my Java late one night before I went to bed and the next day, runescape was choppy and extremely unresponsive.

 

Does anyone have a clue whats going on? I run Google Chrome on Vista on a compaq laptop, not exactly the strongest system lol

1) Google Chrome is known to be buggy an [cabbage]e with Java

 

2) Go to add/remove programs uninstall EVERY thing that say java (Java is a messy old sod so you usuall have like "Java update 8" through to "Java update 13" or something dotted about). Go and redownload and install a nice clean install of java

Unfortunately, Google Chrome can't handle Java very well, which is odd, considering how often sites use it. Why not have Firefox as a dedicated Runescape-only browser, and Chrome for everything else? That's what I did for a fairly long time.

well I tried it on Firefox as well, and it was still unresponsive. But I'll try uninstalling everything with java...

Okay so I cleaned up the hard drive a little bit, only one update of java left, it's Java 6 update 17 if that helps out at all, and it's slightly better, though not really.

 

and if it helps, I got 2 gb RAM and a 2.16 Ghz processor on vista...

Does it say JDK or JRE? The "JDK" is the Java Development Kit. which is a bundle of software that you can use to develop Java based software. The "JRE" is the Java Runtime Environment, which is an implementation of the Java Virtual Machine which actually executes Java programs. Typically, each JDK contains one (or more) JRE's along with the various development tools like the Java source compilers, bundling and deployment tools, debuggers, development libraries, etc). If it says JDK1.0.6_17 (or something along those lines), try installing the Java RunTime Environment, which is located at http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp. Find the one for your OS, download, and install.

 

I doubt you actually even need JDK, unless you're need to compile something. ;)

That wouldn't be the problem woo as the JRE comes with the jdk as it is required to even run anything that you code. To go even further on this point, having more than one jre or jdk update will allow you to run legacy code that no longer works in the most recent versions.

 

My hypothesis is that you should flush all the "runecape" files on your computer and redownload them; reply with a post if that doesn't solve the problem.
