i see two things wrong with kaida's statement about our security

1. why would anyone bomb canada? we havn't done anything wrong. everyone loves us.

2. it's just protesters, so RCMP arn't going to shoot them off the roofs, or hang them. Canada handles its problems with anything but force. they will probebly spend a day in jail, mabye a week at most. or mabye not at all.

If I might respond...

 

1. Terrorists do not discriminate when it comes to who they attack (suicide bombing of school buses anyone?). Blowing up the Parliament Buildings of a large, industrialized western nation would be a major coup and bring untold attention from the rest of the world. Not 9/11 level attention perhaps, but you see my point.

 

2. The fact that they were "just protesters" isn't the point. No one should have had enough freedom to get up there in the first place. We're talking about the seat of our government. The response of security personnel shouldn't be adjusted according to the people involved. If someone is not supposed to be in an area, they should be removed immedately. *Not* after they've had a chance to try and make whatever point it is they're trying to get across.

 

The actions of these "protestors" (I say "protesters" because there are proper ways to go about holding protests on Parliament Hill) have exposed an incredibly troubling hole in the security of of our govenment officials. One that if not rectified could very well be exploited by people with a much more sinistar agenda next time.

I still think your overreacting a bit. Canada is a nice country. We dont get bombed because we arn't the ones sending in thousands of troops to afganistan. We send a bunch of metics. Bombing us wouldn't prove a point like 9/11 did. 9/11 was their way of saying "gtfo of our country, [cabbage]holes" too bad it just killed thousands and provoked yet another war

 

would you notice a bunch of protesters at street level as much as you would notice protesters on the roof? they are proving a point, and a damned good one

I wouldn't say people "love" Canada, and they're a better country than US. It's just that they don't get involved on the level we do. Not that that's always bad thing, Canada has kept itself in good shape that way.

 

And the point isn't that the protesters are wrong, it's that they shouldn't have been able to get that far! If they could do it, someone with worse intent just as easily could have.

 

P.S. Are NATO countries obligated to help each other out against terrorism, or is it just to defend against other countries?

I think there is intelligence sharing between NATO nations in regards to terrorism but I think it is dealt with as more of an internal matter for the individual member states...I think.
