Internet in my room?

Featured Replies

Hi - i recently found out that the internet in our house is far slower in my room than anywhere else in house, often it disconnects but then instantly reconnects if i move my laptop outside my room. Is there anything i can buy like a booster or something to increase the internet connectivity in my room?

If ur on wireless you need a router (that does wireless) somewhere between you and the main router to boost the signal.

Or you could get a pair of powerline adapters, plug one in near the router and run ethernet cable into it. Then plug one into your room and run ethernet from it to your laptop.

There may be some other solutions but I dont know them

You could always try moving your router a little. If my router is moved ever so slightly from where I have it, it'll weaken my wireless signal and slow my connection speed to a crawl. It's amazing how much difference moving something around slightly can make.

Besides what else has been mentioned, you could also try buying a wireless repeater and place in the middle of the area in between your room and where your router is.

Thanks a lot for all your suggestions, I'll look into them :)

Isn't it also possible to send data through the mains power?

Ah okay. I really don't see how they work though

if your router has adjustable antennas you could also try pointing one in the general direction of your room

Although Transferring ones data via the powerlines may sound like a good idea, BPL suffers from extreme electro-magnetic interference resulting in large data corruption over both short and long distances and in turn this is why the effort to have any network use this method has been pretty much shelved. This is also why the internet mainly relies upon various types of standard optic fibers, which are buried in the ground to further reduce it, in order to prevent such interference.

The best possible solution you have for your wireless network is to buy a wireless repeater to strengthen the signal over longer distances.

45 and 90 degree angles are most recommended if the antenna is going to be messed with

Accept its not that bad at all. It's not workable on a national scale, but within a house it works with no issue at all.

We run power line adapters at home to feed the router upstairs to the wii, my desktop and my brothers room and we have zero issues with speed lose, corruption of data or any other bad results.

It'll also depend on what's between your router and your room (walls, doors etc), if you move it into a place where the wireless signal is less obstructed then it may work better.
