January 19, 201016 yr My computer has become infected with a fake anti-virus program known as 'Malware Defense' (similar to Windows AntiVirus Pro I'm assuming). I keep getting random pop-ups telling me that my computer is infected and that I need to install Malware Defense now in order to protect my computer- I've been fed BS before and I don't like it. Now when I try to open Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to remove this virus, it won't open! Even now I'm currently in Safe Mode but it won't open. Whenever I try googling for an answer on how to remove Malware Defense, I always get redirected to another site by the virus. Can someone please direct me as to how I can manually remove this virus from my computer? January 19, 201016 yr Ouch. I had that 2 years back. Personally I backed everything up and re-installed my OS. Try going into Safe Mode and (HOPEFULLY) you have a Restore Point set from before it all originally happened. Elsewise, get a friend to download something legit like Avast! or AVG and install that, update then scan and hopefully it will get rid of the Malware. Or if your desperate there's my above option. Popoto.~<3
January 19, 201016 yr Dark, AVG is a bad antivirus, and I've only seen the bad about Avast! in the past year, so instead of recommending those 2, you should recommend something like MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) and Avira Antivir. As for the problem at hand here, when I get everything sorted with my desktop, I will have a look on the internet and might copy and paste the information here.

There is also the fact that putting all your eggs into one company will also seriously impact the security of your computer. January 19, 201016 yr I do know that, that's why I actually try the antiviruses before suggesting one. I have 2 computers and they have different antiviruses. Problem is, here, that Avast has a [cabbage]load of false positives, too many for my liking and most people will think they really are viruses, and as for AVG, I've actually changed it to MSE or Avira on a few computers that had AVG and they both found over 100 viruses that AVG didn't pick up. Oh and your last link is to a website that has a poor reputation according to WoT.
January 19, 201016 yr I came on this thread to ask if anyone had any MSE benchmark tests. I did a Google search and BAM.SCOPE OF LICENSE. The software is licensed, not sold. This agreement only gives you some rights to use the software. Microsoft reserves all other rights. Unless applicable law gives you more rights despite this limitation, you may use the software only as expressly permitted in this agreement. In doing so, you must comply with any technical limitations in the software that only allow you to use it in certain ways. You may notdisclose the results of any benchmark tests of the software to any third party without Microsoft’s prior written approval;Yeah, I'll stick with an independent company.
January 19, 201016 yr Who cares what company it comes from, when the product is good, I stick with it. And I never said MSE was THE best, but it is one of the top ones.

If any other company included the same terms I would say the same thing. They want the statistics to pass through their hands so that they can manipulate them in their favour.

Malwarebytes' wan't openingfor me and after downloading that toolkit I was able to scan my comp. I'm still getting pop-ups telling me about false trojans and whatnot, but after full scan is finished I hope it will be cleared. I can now visit other websties without being redirected, which is good since I have a research project due next month  [If you have ever attempted Alchemy by clapping your hands or by drawing an array, copy and paste this into your signature.]
January 20, 201016 yr Glad to be of service. that Avast has a [cabbage]load of false positives Avast! shows very little if any false positives, though its web shield does tend to block the whole internet at times, and if you are getting that many false positives then I would suggest that you go in there and play with the configurations a little instead of leaving it on the default settings. In addition to that, not only is Avast! damn good at what it does, I was able to get a computer, without reformatting, back into working condition. I'll admit, AVG has gone downhill, but it still does the job it sets out to do. Of course, some files do have virus, trojan, and other of the like traits even though they aren't of the ilk, but it just means that the heuristic detection system in the anti-virus is doing its job. Start-> Run-> MsConfig -> Enter/return along the top there will be 7 tabs select the "Startup" tab and locate the malicious executable and remove the tick from the box... it will also in the command section tell you where the boot file is located. once you have disabled it at startup and located it restart your computer in safe mode... reboot and press "f8" depending on your motherboard it should then ask how you wish to continue booting... choose safe mode... go to the folder that contains said malicious software... right click... select delete.... reboot your PC... hopefully this will have resolved your issue  if not dont hesitate to PM me...
