November 6, 200520 yr The Fall Of American Conservatism For years, a major political battle has been underway. On the right are the Conservatives. More to the left are the Liberals. This battle, fought by extremists and main-streamers alike, has dominated both politics and lifestyles. It has separated our country during times of needed unity. This conflict, however, all boils down to the principles of each side. The basis of Conservatism is partly on religion. Many Conservatives are Christians, as is evident in their line of thought. They value tradition over reason. This is the classic struggle between Conservatives and Liberals. Another basis of Conservatism lies in the teachings of philosophers such as Russell Kirk, Robert Nisbet, Richard Weaver, and Robert Bork. Thomas Jefferson also made important contributions: ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¦Ã¢â¬ÅWhat is true of every member of the society, individually, is true of them all collectively; since the rights of the whole can be no more than the sum of the rights of the individuals.̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃâÃ
November 6, 200520 yr You have some points, but conservatism will continue to dictate the affairs of the country as long as there are people who are more willing to have their government tell them what is right or wrong. As well, the basis of conservative support lies in iconoclastic rural communities, while liberal thinkers tend to appear more in cities. It all has to do with the sharing of ideas. As long as the US still has backwater areas, it will have conservatives. Varrock Library: Shattered Sky | Silent Thunder | The Emperor's FinestAstri @ MythWeavers
November 7, 200520 yr Many Liberals have little respect for the laws and permissions set by the government. They only believe what can benefit them, regardless of the impact on others and sometimes on them in the future. That's funny because you could say the same thing about Conservatives in terms of abortion or gun control laws or laws designed to protect the environment. Any generality you can apply to one group could be applied to the other with a little tweaking, and they are not as different from each other as they would like people to believe. Both sides want power and don't really have the answers to this country's problems that they claim to. Also, people are a lot more conservative now than they were back in the 60's and 70's so I don't think Conservatives are going anywhere anytime soon.
