Don't understand junk trading

Say for example mint cake is 10m street price, I give 9.95m junk and 50k worth of mint cake and I get 10m cash in return, I'll be ending up with the same thing in the end. I don't understand it at all.

It's basically a way to get rid of items that are otherwise unsellable, such as javalins, or many unstrung bows. Since they do not sell, or aleast are extremely hard to sell, they are viewed as being worthless, and considered junk.

Junk is something you could not sell on the exchange. So junk isn't worth nothing, it's just worth less than its GE value. Something on the GE for 1000 coins may only really be worth 600 coins.

You end up with the same "worth" but gp is far more liquid than junk is, and by that I mean it's easier to buy things with gp than with unstrung bows and mint cakes (Especially because those can't be used in shops or npc transfers for things like shards).
