RS Instances

I think instances would be a great addition to the game. They provide opportunities for new items and areas. The most general definition of instances is:

"a dungeon or area that creates a new copy of the area or dungeon for a group of players to play though". Instances generally lessen the load on a server so players outside of the instance will experience less lag. This will require an instance queue system though.

One question you might ask is "How would this work in RuneScape?". Well I will be telling you in detail starting now...

Instances require a combat level of 50 and the completion of a quest. There

will be both F2P and P2P instances so all players can enjoy these. Located in the

center of Lumbridge will be a new NPC named the "Instance Master". If your combat

level is less than 50, you will get a message from the Instance Master that says

"You are too low of a level. Please come back when you train a wee-bit more.". You

will be able to do instances by yourself or with a clan. You can bring familiars

into certain instances, but not in others.

Upon the completion of an instance, you can receive rewards such as new

armor, weapons, pets, money, experience, other instances, and more. If you do the

instance as a clan, everyone will get a reward.

There will be a vast amount of instances available. You can unlock new

instances by doing quests, achievement diaries, random events, and just by leveling

combat. The difficulty of the monsters in the instances will vary based on your

combat level. There will be 20 slots per instance per world. This is so that the

server doesn't get overloaded. I stated previously that instances reduce server

loads, but you need a way to prevent everyone from doing an instance. Instances will

be available as safe mode (where you don't lose anything on death) and dangerous

mode ( You keep 3 or 4 items on death). There will be timed and unlimited instances.

If you are doing an instance solo and leave or die, you must go through the process

and start over. If you are with a group of people and someone dies or leaves, they

may re-enter after you clan clears a certain area.

So if you meet all requirements and you want to start an instance, all you have to

do is have your clan leader or yourself talk to the Instance Master. He will ask you

to choose an instance. If there is a slot available for that instance, you and/or

your clan have 5 minutes to prepare to go and they must enter a portal. If there is

not a slot available, you must wait in a queue. There will be a system to group

players together so if you want to join up with some random people and clan

together, you can.

The interface will change slightly when you are at an instance. You will have access

to your prayers, magic spells, music, settings, inventory, equipment tabs, and

familiar and map buttons. A new tab will take the place of the goals tab. This will

have a little icon with the letter "I" and some colorful text in it. This will

contain various information about your instance. It will show information such as

Instance Name:

Instance Difficulty

Safe Mod: On/Off

Your Kills:

Your Deaths:

Monsters Remaining:

Time Left:

Instances Unlocked: X/X

Instances Completed:

Instances Started:

Instances Failed/Scratched:

Instances will bring several new maps into the game. Each map will be separate from

the game map. When doing an instance, you will have to go through multiple areas and

kill any monsters. Some areas will be multi-way combat and some won't. After getting

though the instance, you will have to defeat a final boss. This can range in

difficulty from a Hellhound to something of equal proportions to the Corporal Beast.

These instances are meant to be challenging and time consuming while providing a fun

way to train or make money. They will add a new aspect to the game.

This will be challenging technically to the developers, but I have confidence that they can do it.

Instances, especially large ones, increase lag as the server has to load them as extra. It is why soul wars wasn't instanced.

Runescape already uses instancesi in-game for many many quests. Theres a ton of instanced caves and areas and npcs

These are met to be more missions. If an instances is ran on a separate physical server the original server will have less of a load because the player's information will not have to be updated on that server and the player will not have to be updated about the other players.

But the game world of runescape is scripted to run on a single server.

And with 170 odd game servers are you suggesting jagex doubles running costs to have an instancing server for every actual sever?

The entire Nomad's Requiem dungeon, for example.

This sounds like a big Mini-game to me. I think it's cool, and it would be nice a clan "minigame" apart from fighting other clans. I support.
